Overview:

The Infrastructure Reliability Group within the Integrated Operations Support Division (IOSD) at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) seeks a full-time Reliability Engineering Team Lead to support the Facilities and Operations (F&O) Directorate. The successful candidate will lead the Reliability Engineering Team in the predictive operations and asset management effort within the F&O Directorate. This position will be a key liaison helping to foster a strong partnership within the F&O Directorate and ORNL stakeholders to develop, maintain, and improve the reliability program.

The Reliability Engineering Team Lead provides line management to the reliability engineers and craft supervisor. The Team Lead will also be responsible for working with the group leader and other F&O leadership to ensure the development and implementation of the reliability program is successful. This position coordinates project management, predictive maintenance strategies, and other reliability engineering roles. Other functions performed by the team include arc flash analysis and infrared scans, asset management, and system performance trending.

Major Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Line management of reliability engineers and the craft supervisor.

  • Manage the Reliability staff's programmatic progress and deliverables and ensure engineering output is completed on within scope and on schedule.

  • Serve in a technical role to support the completion of the reliability program.

  • Work with F&O and research stakeholders to define system requirements, coordinating the Reliability Team support, and leading the staff conducting system performance trending and analysis to give corrective action recommendations to the system engineers.

  • Coordinate the team's engagements with other support teams to ensure drawings, procedures, and system hierarchies are completed on schedule.

  • Technical Project Officer and primary point of contact for vendor relations.Define strategic maintenance improvement opportunities, identify technologies, and support installations of predictive maintenance tools and ensure quality and functional requirements are delivered according to contracts.

  • Benchmark industry and other agencies to identify best practices following applicable ISO Standards 55000 and 14224.

  • Oversee the administration of the Reliability Team's deliverable output quality.

  • Provide excellent customer service to system engineers including strong troubleshooting, analytics, communication, and problem-solving skills. Develop customer relationships, align operations to missions and assure customer satisfaction.

  • Build and maintain a work environment that promotes collaboration, trust, performance, feedback, recognition, mutual respect, and employee engagement.

  • Ensure work activities are performed safely, securely, effectively, and in compliance with environmental, safety, health, and quality requirements, applicable laws, regulations, policies, and procedures.

  • Provide mentoring/professional development of the Reliability Team staff.

Basic Qualifications:

  • BS degree in a science or engineering-related field.

  • A minimum of 8 years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • MS degree in engineering or relevant field.

  • Minimum of 2 years of managing teams and project management experience.

  • Certifications such as PMP, Lean Six Sigma, CRE, etc.

  • Strong Project Management skills, written and oral communication skills, analytical skills, negotiating skills, and business skills.

  • Experience in reliability engineering methods (e.g. FMEA, PMO, RCA).

  • Working knowledge/experience with enterprise asset management (EAM) or computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS), like HxGN EAM, SAP, or Maximo.

  • Experience with predictive maintenance technologies.

  • Working knowledge/experience with Industrial Control Systems including building automation systems (BAS), metering, and monitoring.

  • Experience working with operations, maintenance, or production organizations.

  • Background in design engineering or facility management.

  • Familiarity with ISO Standards 55000 and 14224.

Special Requirements:

  • Q Clearance: This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a clearance from the Department of Energy. As such, this position is a Workplace Substance Abuse (WSAP) testing designated position. WSAP positions require passing a pre-placement drug test and participation in an ongoing random drug testing program.
