JOB DESCRIPTION:

Summary of Position

The Peer Support Professional works in the capacity of a person that has lived experience and firsthand knowledge in addiction/recovery, mental health conditions, or has lived experience with a family member that has experienced one or more of those issues. The Peer Support Professional will utilize their expertise and unique knowledge to assist others experiencing addiction, mental health conditions, and crisis intervention depending on their specific experience. The Peer Support Professional will help articulate recovery goals, teach new skills, monitor progress, and support treatment. The Peer Support Professional will share their stories and insights to inspire and empower others.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Cultivating relationships built on trust, respect, empathy, mutual experience, and choice
  • Offering support through validation, encouragement, empowerment, and highlighting strengths
  • Sharing their personal experience (when appropriate) to inspire hope
  • Recognizing a person's personal beliefs, cultural values, previous experiences, and individual needs
  • Providing education about recovery, advocating for oneself, and how to navigate treatment or the healthcare system
  • Educating the public
  • Assisting during crises by discussing warning signs, healthy coping, and sharing resources
  • Verbalize understanding of what recovery means and articulate it to others.
  • Assist clients with identifying personal strengths in daily living and recovery skills (when applicable)
  • Facilitate evidence-based protocols, safety plans, complete screens and risk assessments as trained.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary meetings to partner with Centerstone programs and community partners.
  • Coordinate and assist with connection to care.
  • Transport clients to appointments and to access resources.

  • Empowers people to choose recovery and find meaning and purpose throughout the process (when applicable)
  • Person-centeredby celebrating a person's strengths and focusing on individual needs and goals
  • Prioritizes autonomy, choice, and collaboration, allowing a person to play an important role in their recovery
  • Creates a foundation established on respect, trust, mutuality, and lived experience
  • Trauma-informedthrough emphasizing physical, emotional, and psychological safety
  • Must have excellent communication skills and the ability to meet communication requirements of certification.
  • Basic computer literacy is required.

Qualifications

Education Level

Must be 18 years of age or older, have lived experience receiving mental health, substance use or gambling treatment. High school diploma or equivalent

Years of Experience

N/A

Required Certification/Licensure

Must have a valid driver's license and proof of insurance.

Peer Support Professional Certification is required.

  • Must be able to verify completion of state-approved training program and passing score on certification exam, if not currently certified, must become certified within 90 days unless otherwise approved by the hiring manager.

Requirements of the certification which include:

  • Lived experience with mental illness/substance use or gambling disorder or lived experience with a family member in one or more of the above indicated areas
  • Willing to share personal recovery story to assist others.

Time Type:

Full time

Pay Range:

$15.00--$21.00
