We are seeking a WIC Nutritionist Breastfeeding Coordinator who will be part of a team that is focused on helping families to meet their nutrition goals. They are responsible for performing nutrition assessment and certification, counseling, nutrition education and support family needs through referrals. Also responsible for assisting with the planning, development, and evaluation and oversight of the breastfeeding peer counseling program and support activities. Responsibilities include: 1. Performs nutrition responsibilities as identified in the MA State WIC job description for senior nutritionist, program nutritionist, dietetic technician (CPA III) or nutrition assistant (CPA II). 2. Oversees on-going activities of peer counselor program, including training and evaluation of peer counselors, in collaboration with the program director and senior nutritionist. 3. Develops breastfeeding protocols for standards of service. 4. Oversees development, implementation and evaluation of local program breastfeeding activities, such as participant education classes, breastfeeding support groups and breastfeeding contacts for prenatal and breastfeeding individuals and infants. 5. Identifies and coordinates with community breastfeeding resources for appropriate breastfeeding referrals. 6. Keeps current with the latest breastfeeding information and informs staff of new recommendations. 7. Ensures appropriate breastfeeding materials are available for participant education. 8. Trains staff regarding breastfeeding issues. 9. Attends Breastfeeding Promotion Task Force meetings and shares pertinent information with staff. 10. Collaborates with local health care professionals in breastfeeding promotion and support activities, including annual World Breastfeeding Week Activities. 11. Collaborates on and contributes to in-service training for health professionals in the community. 12. Manage the breast pump rental program. Maintain breastfeeding equipment and supplies for satellite site. 13. Use designated time assigned for Breastfeeding Coordinator duties solely for work related to role as the Breastfeeding Coordinator. 14. Uphold the values of CTI - Equity, Integrity, Compassion. 15. Perform other related duties as assigned. Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in Public Health Nutrition, Food & Nutrition, Nutrition Education or related degree; or High School Diploma with CPA II certification required. Certified Lactation Counselor or International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (or willingness to obtain either of these within one year) required. Meet the qualifications for a WIC nutrition staff position. Previous WIC experience as a Nutritionist in the Massachusetts WIC Program required. Previous supervisory experience desired. Certification as an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC), Lactation Counselor (CLC) or other lactation specialist desired; required within one year of hire. One year experience counseling breastfeeding persons. Motivated to promote breastfeeding. Meet the qualifications for the nutrition staff position. One year of experience counseling breastfeeding individuals. Motivated to promote breastfeeding. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Sensitivity to the multicultural needs of participants. Certification as an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC), Lactation Counselor (CLC) or other lactation specialist obtained within one year. Demonstrated leadership and decision-making capabilities. Ability to motivate other staff. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Thorough understanding of and commitment to serving the health and wellness needs of children families, and staff. Knowledge of and experience with federal funders and performance management processes. Availability to work at multiple WIC sites and during evening and weekend hours, as needed.
