Seaward Services is seeking a Second Mate for our Sea Fighter operation in Panama City FL (shoreside position).

This person will be adaptable, dynamic, and embody Hornblower's RESPECT Service System.

About the Opportunity:

The Second Mate is a key member of the ship's command team, responsible for supporting the safe and efficient operation of the vessel in accordance with the highest standards in the passenger vessel industry. Reporting to the Chief Mate, the Second Mate assists in all aspects of shipboard operations including navigation, watchkeeping, safety drills, and cargo handling. This role plays a critical part in maintaining operational readiness, training and supervising junior officers and crew, and ensuring exceptional service and integrity are extended to all guests and fellow crew members.
The Sea Fighter is located in Panama City FL and applicants must reside in the area. Typical schedule is M-F 0700 - 1600.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:



  • Serve as a key officer responsible for vessel navigation and security operations.
  • Assist the Master by providing accurate and timely navigational information to ensure safe passage between ports.
  • Act as the Vessel Security Officer (VSO):
  • Implement the Vessel Security Plan (VSP)
  • Promote onboard security awareness
  • Regularly review vessel security vulnerabilities
  • Recommend revisions and improvements to the VSP
  • Serve as the designated GMDSS operator onboard.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable maritime regulations, including USCG, FCC, IMO-HSC, and other relevant agencies.
  • Assist the Master with navigation and control of the vessel.
  • Maintain, compile, and review official vessel logs, reports, and required documentation.
  • Lead the maintenance and updating of navigational charts and publications.
  • Monitor vessel safety conditions and take corrective actions as directed by the Master.
  • Support the Master in establishing a strong safety culture onboard.
  • Schedule and conduct safety audits in accordance with company policy and operational needs.
  • Lead training initiatives for crew members, ensuring readiness and proficiency.
  • Participate in the interviewing, training, and evaluation of marine personnel.
  • Monitor and support performance standards and professional behavior of marine crew.
  • Recommend appropriate disciplinary actions for policy violations within the marine crew.
  • Oversee the embarkation and disembarkation process for passengers and cargo.
  • Organize and participate in safety and emergency drills as directed by the Master.
  • Ensure all drills are properly recorded and documented.
  • Collaborate with the Master in prioritizing operational tasks and planning capital projects.
  • Attend Marine Department meetings as required by the Master or Operations Manager.
  • Adhere to the shipboard chain of command and fulfill duties as outlined in the Watch Quarter Station Bill.
  • Additional job duties as assigned.


Requirements & Qualifications:



  • Valid Merchant Mariners Credential (MMC), Master 1600 ton or higher
  • GMDSS
  • Secret Clearance
  • Valid U.S. Passport
  • Valid USCG Medical Certificate
  • Valid TWIC Card
  • Ability to pass a physical exam
  • Ability to pass a written exam
