Purpose of Position
Responsible for the design, documentation, coding, testing, and verification of Automatic Flight Control System (AFCS), Air Data System (ADS) and Fly-By-Wire (FBW) Flight Control System software. Will work with other software groups, hardware engineering groups, and technicians to establish and verify proper design and function of assigned systems. Will coordinate with program management and the customer to ensure all assigned systems are verified and acceptable for simulator qualification and ready for use by the customer.
Tasks and Responsibilities
- Reviews program requirements documentation, simulator engineering specifications, malfunction documents, test requirements and related test data and aircraft design data related to the aircraft AFCS, ADS and FBW systems.
- Designs and implements AFCS, ADS and FBW systems simulation software and integrates the software with that of the other engineering disciplines such as flight, engines, systems, navigation, and visual systems.
- Understands and develops full Flight Director/Autopilot, Yaw Damper, Auto-Trim models and control laws.
- Understands and develops full Air Data System, including pitot-static system, temperature probes, ADS smartprobes, Air Data Computer.
- Understands and develops full Fly-By-Wire flight control system.
- Transforms engineering flow diagrams into high order computer language and working Automatic Flight Control System and Fly-By-Wire models.
- Can uses pictures-to-code tools to develop software models.
- Integrates AFCS and FBW systems software with control loading and motion software and hardware.
- Develops AFCS, ADS and FBW systems test program and customer test plan. Writes customer test guide.
- Performs standardized checkout procedures.
- Directs all aspects of Autoflight assigned system tests under the supervision of a Lead Engineer or the Group Leader.
- Works with other engineering departments to ensure the Autoflight assigned system simulation meets all test requirements.
- Participates in on-site qualification process of simulator
- Presents periodic informational reviews to the functional and project management.
- Works with other engineering departments, Program Managers, and others to affect an integrated total simulation smoothly and efficiently.
- Works with customers to complete AFCS, ADS and FBW system testing and correct any discrepancies in the automatic flight control system simulation.
- Travel, shift work, and overtime may be required to accomplish some of the above tasks.

Minimum Education
Bachelor's degree in Engineering Preferably Aerospace, Aeronautical or Electrical; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Minimum Experience
- C++/C/C# programming
- Lean/Agile software development
- 4 years' experience
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
SOFTWARE KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
- FORTRAN, UNIX, C++ and Simulink/Matlab desired.
- Knowledge of operating systems such as Microsoft Windows, UNIX, Linux, and
- Concurrent is desired.
EQUIPMENT KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
- Standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and photocopiers.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
- Fluency in English, through both verbal and written communications
- Able to read, analyze, and interpret general business documents, technical procedures, or governmental regulations
- Able to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals
- Able to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients and customers.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
- Able to comprehend and apply principles of advanced calculus, modern algebra, and advanced statistical theory; Able to work with concepts such as limits, rings, quadratic and differential equations, and proofs of theorems.
REASONING ABILITY:
- Able to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; Able to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
