AUDITOR 3 - GRANT MONITORING Safety and Homeland Security Internal Audit Nashville, TN Salary: $4,517 - $5,638 per month. Salary is commensurate with knowledge, skills, and experience directly related to this job. Closing Date: 08/06/2025

The position is eligible for the Alternative Workplace Solutions (AWS) initiative, which allows the applicant to work from home most of the time. Travel for this position will be minimal and will be within the State of Tennessee.

The mission of the Department of Safety and Homeland Security is to serve, secure, and protect the people of Tennessee. The Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security (TDOSHS) is responsible for ensuring the safety and general welfare of the public. The departments general areas of responsibility include: Law enforcement Commercial vehicle enforcement Criminal investigations Homeland security Safety education Driver license issuance, renewal, and replacement Handgun permit issuance, renewal, and replacement Traffic safety initiatives

How you make a difference in this role:

The Internal Audit Division of the Tennessee Department of Safety & Homeland Security is looking for an experienced auditor with a desire to support the mission of the department. As an Auditor 3 in the Grant Monitoring group, you will monitor grant recipients across the state to ensure compliance with federal and state rules and regulations as well as the terms of grant agreements with the Tennessee Department of Safety & Homeland Security.

Job Overview:

Under general supervision, the Auditor 3 will work independently to perform monitoring reviews of Highway Safety grants that are paid and administered through the Departments Tennessee Highway Safety Office. The Auditor 3 may also be assigned to other grant monitoring engagements as needed by the Division. The Auditor 3 position is an Executive Service position housed in the Internal Audit Division, reporting directly to the Auditor 4 in charge of grant monitoring activities.

Key Responsibilities:

Key responsibilities for this role include, but are not limited to the following:

  1. Working with the subrecipient grant monitoring team on monitoring of grants administered by the Tennessee Highway Safety Office Complete monitoring engagements of grantees ensuring that adequate internal controls are in place and spending is in accordance with the terms of the grant agreement.
  2. Preparation of draft monitoring reports that clearly communicates monitoring results and recommendations for corrective action.
  3. Monitoring of federal grant activity by the TDOSHS. Other duties and special projects as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Position Requirements Bachelors Degree from an accredited college or university in Accounting or similarly focused business degree.
  2. Previous experience with grant monitoring and/or subrecipient monitoring is highly preferred.
  3. Professional certification(s) such as CPA, CIA, or CFE is preferred. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.

  2. Self-starter with a can do attitude that can work independently.
  3. Ability to interpret and apply policy and terms of grant agreements when completing monitoring engagements.
  4. Strong attention to detail. Strong critical thinking, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  5. Adaptability with flexibility to pivot in a rapidly changing environment.
