Job Description:

Mandatory skills/certification(s) Requirement:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; additional education or training in: Railroad Safety or FRA or FTA Regulations or Motive Power and Equipment (MP&E) or Railroad Signaling or Operating Practices or Track or Signals or Control Center work.


Desired skills:

  • Job Duties Ensure compliance of rail properties under the jurisdiction of NJDOT with federal and State safety standards;
  • Review and enforce compliance with standards or regulations imposed by internal guidelines;
  • Assist in the overall quality, compliance, and auditing activities to ensure compliance with federal regulations and state standards, federal operating procedures, light rail operating rules, industry standards, and applicable federal and State laws;
  • Review internal audit checklists and approve audit items. Provide recommendation as necessary to ensure internal audits comply with federal and State regulations and conforms to industry standards;
  • Observe internal audit activities and the review of internal audit reports;
  • Review and approve system safety program plans, public transportation agency transportation safety plans, compliance work plans, staff education and retraining, hazard analysis, annual reports, accident reports, and corrective action plan implementation;
  • Track corrective action plans, report on their progress and provide recommendation to resolve impedances;
  • Review submissions to the State and determine if a rail system is following their standards in reporting in a timely manner;
  • Attend system certification meetings when necessary to ensure rail properties are following the certification process;
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals;
  • Speaking to all levels of personnel in the organization;
  • Attend external audits of the State and provides information as necessary;
  • Investigate complaints involving unsafe conditions of track or the other subject areas of responsibility, including but not limited to, interviewing complainants, railroad officials, and any parties as required for proper investigation of the complaint.


Role & Responsibilities:

  • We are seeking a detail-oriented and organized individual with a railroad background to assist an office that oversees accident and incident investigations. The ideal candidate will be responsible for performing inspections, managing databases, reviewing reports, and processing monthly data submissions. This role requires excellent communication skills and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
