The Opportunity

The Lifeguard Specialist is responsible for assisting the Assistant Director of Fitness Facility Operations and Risk Management with maintaining a safe and clean aquatics operation by building and maintaining a well-trained team of lifeguards and enforcing high standards in aquatic operations management.

Position Duties:

  • Teaches lifeguard certification courses to certify new guards and recertify existing guards.
  • Assists with hiring, training, and onboarding of new lifeguards.
  • Ensures that all lifeguards are current on their training and certifications.
  • Schedules, coordinates and conducts monthly in-service training.
  • Ensures that lifeguards are fully competent in first aid, CPR, and all water rescue techniques.
  • Assists with the scheduling of lifeguards to ensure that adequate coverage of pool areas are maintained during operating hours.
  • Evaluates lifeguard staff performance in accordance with established safety regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Keeps the Assistant Director well informed of pool maintenance and supply/ equipment needs by performing regular equipment inventories and pool inspection.
  • Ensures that swimmers are well supervised in the pool and on decks. Fills in for lifeguards as necessary.
  • Responds to patron concerns, questions, or any other significant issues. Provides input and feedback while responding to problems.
  • Ensures that aquatic programs are occurring as desired and assists with the overall management of swimming events.
  • Works weekly lifeguard shifts, including filling in for shifts when needed and available.
  • Performs all lifeguard responsibilities including monitoring pool activities, applying first aid, and performing water rescues as necessary.
  • Performs all duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Prior experience in aquatic and/or lifeguard leadership preferred
  • Ability to maintain a consistent work schedule
  • Quality communication and organization skills
  • Current lifeguard certification required

Compensation

The compensation of this position is $21,840 which will be paid bi-weekly and includes an optional university meal plan. This internship does NOT include any fringe benefits such as housing or health insurance.

Duration:

10 months
