The Alaka`ina Foundation Family of Companies (FOCs) is looking for an Accounting Manager to support our Corporate office in Orlando, Florida.

We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Accounting Manager to oversee and maintain daily and monthly accounting functions. This role is responsible for coordinating with external tax accountants to ensure accurate and timely filing of federal, state, and local tax returns. Additionally, the Accounting Manager will work closely with our third-party compliance partners to ensure the company remains fully compliant with all applicable state and city tax regulations and filing requirements. Provide support to the VP of Finance and the Director of Finance.

DESCRIPTION OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversee GET tax calculations, payments and returns.
  • Collaborate with external tax accountants to prepare and file federal, state, and local tax returns, ensuring accuracy and adherence to deadlines.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between the company and third-party compliance service providers.
  • Monitor and manage compliance with state and municipal tax regulations, including business licenses, sales/use tax, and other local filings.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of tax laws and regulatory changes that may impact on the organization.
  • Coordinate the collection and organization of financial data required for tax filings and audits.
  • Review and reconcile tax-related general ledger accounts.
  • Assist with tax planning strategies and provide recommendations to optimize tax efficiency.
  • Support internal and external audits by providing necessary documentation and responding to inquiries.
  • Work with the VP of Finance and the Director of Finance to issue timely and complete financial statements.
  • Manage and maintain the general ledger accounts by monitoring journal entry preparation, preparing monthly accruals and entries and reconciling accounts monthly.
  • Complete special projects, giving insightful analysis when needed.
  • Reconcile financial discrepancies by collecting and analyzing account information.
  • Protect the company's value by keeping information confidential.
  • Achieve accounting operational objectives by contributing accounting information and recommendations to operational plans and reviews; preparing and completing action plans; resolving problems; completing audits; identifying trends; determining system improvements; implementing change.
  • Assist with accounting controls by maintaining a chart of accounts and defining accounting policies and procedures.
  • Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.

REQUIRED DEGREE/EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:

Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field and considerable working experience as an accountant.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of five (5) years of accounting experience.
  • In depth knowledge of accounting principles, practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge and skill in work supervising methods and techniques.
  • Experience with computerized accounting systems, financial software applications and MS Office. Must possess extensive Excel knowledge.
  • Knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, and cost control principles including Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for exchanging information and preparing reports.
  • Strong interpersonal, monitoring and customer service skills required.
  • Attention to detail, teamwork skills and the ability to motivate others.
  • Ability to multi-task, tackle workload pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent work habits, including a willingness to work the hours necessary to get the job done, especially when important deadlines cause greater than normal departmental pressures.
