R&D Group Leader

This position is accountable for managing the timely development of new and/or improved products/processes in support of business goals and objectives, meeting or exceeding the agreed upon completion dates, and the timely resolution of internal and external technical problems. Presentations will routinely be made to marketing, sales, technical, and manufacturing organizations. This position is also accountable for the prioritization of overall formula improvements for the Aerosol group including the following Brands/projects: Krylon, DupliColor, VHT and OEM color matching requests.

Job duties include contact with other employees and access to confidential and proprietary information and/or other items of value, and such access may be supervised or unsupervised. The Company therefore has determined that a review of criminal history is necessary to protect the business and its operations and reputation and is necessary to protect the safety of the Company's staff, employees, and business relationships.

* Leading and managing a team of chemists and technicians with technical and formulation expertise in Aerosols.
* Working with Marketing to prioritize projects and allocate resources to drive projects through the Stage Gate process to market with a focus on MOB.
* Collaborating with the Technology Groups internal and external to Sherwin-Williams to identify collaboration opportunities, best practices, and technologies to exceed customer expectations.
* Utilizing and reinforcing DFSS tools during R&D activities.
* Growing and developing team members to drive efficiencies and execute on enterprise strategies and initiatives.

1. Leadership
* Aligning departmental activities to deliver on strategic goals for the Company
* Supporting the transfer of knowledge and information throughout Sherwin-Williams
* Identifying opportunities and building strategic internal and external relationships
* Selecting excellent employees and using a flexible style, along with an open environment, to build a cohesive and productive team
* Coordinating individual and group efforts across boundaries, and function as a Technical liaison

2. Business Management
* Effectively managing time and resources to ensure that work is completed efficiently and on time
* Setting and meeting project deadlines through effective planning and execution
* Prioritizing projects and resources, assessing and communicating progress relative to goals
* Managing and monitoring multiple projects and programs
* Identifying and understanding project issues. Determining and implementing best alternative course of action
* Supporting and leading continuous improvement activities and collaborating with RM group to drive simplification

3. Employee and Team Development
* Facilitating the professional and technical growth of team members
* Supervising manpower resources and allocation
* Facilitating open sharing of knowledge and ideas to promote employee engagement
* Conducting formal performance reviews and addressing performance concerns
* Creating a culture of diversity and inclusion and a positive cooperative work environment

4. Communication
* Written and verbal communication of team and project related information to key stakeholders and Senior Management
* Communicating/interfacing with other departments and divisions
* Effectively communicating projects and deliverables to team

5. Safety and Quality
* Ensuring and reinforcing Safety, Housekeeping and ISO practices
* Actively seeking to improve overall safety through proper training and implementing corrective actions as necessary
* Identifying and addressing quality issues through the implementation of product and or process improvements

Basic Qualifications
* Must be at least 18 years of age
* Must be legally authorized to work in the country for which you are applying for employment without needing sponsorship for employment visa status
* Must have a Bachelor's Degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) field
* Must have at least 1 year of supervisory experience (project management or people management) within R&D or Quality
* High level of initiative and leadership ability

Preferred Qualifications
* Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience with formulation and performance testing
* Design for Six Sigma Champion training is preferred
* Proven ability to lead project teams
* Experience in delegating work and responsibilities is preferred
* Understanding of/Experience within Sherwin-Williams businessunits

Travel Requirements: 20%

Upon completion of construction, the individual selected for this role will primarily work at the new Sherwin-Williams Global Technology Center in Brecksville, Ohio. Construction is expected to be complete in 2025. Until then, the role will be based at 4440 Warrensville Center Rd, Warrensville Heights, OH 44128.
