The Opportunity

Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University is seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Hazardous Waste Technician to support the university's environmental compliance efforts. This hands-on position is responsible for the collection, storage, inspection, and documentation of hazardous and nonhazardous waste in accordance with university policies and regulatory requirements. The ideal candidate is safety-conscious, well-organized, and motivated to support a safe learning and research environment. Other duties may be assigned as needed to support departmental goals and compliance efforts.

Qualifications

Required Education and Qualifications:

  • High School (or GED) level ability in grammar, spelling, basic composition, and math
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record

Required Skills, Knowledge, Abilities:

  • Ability to lift and move containers up to 50 lbs and work in laboratory or utility environments
  • Strong attention to detail and adherence to safety produces and regulatory standards
  • Dependable, organized, and able to work independently and collaboratively

Preferred:

  • Experience handling hazardous materials or supporting environmental safety operations
  • OSHA 24- or 40-Hour HAZWOPER certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire)
  • Familiarity with Safety Data Sheets (SDS), chemical labeling, and waste storage requirements
  • Knowledge of regulatory signage, container management, or environmental compliance systems
