Job Description

The School Certifying Official (UM Job Title: Senior Student Support Specialist) is the primary certifier and point of contact for all U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) and Veterans Affairs (VA) educational benefits. This includes all matters pertaining to the processing, compliance, auditing, and organization of all related materials for UMKC main and branch/extension campuses.

  • VA Education Benefits processing and organization
  • DoD Education Benefits processing and organization
  • Advise incoming & current UMKC students
  • Maintain DoD & VA Accounts for UMKC campuses
  • Ensure UMKC compliance with DoD & VA Benefits per Federal & State rules and regulations.
  • Annual audit and reporting
  • Other job duties as assigned
Shift

This is a part-time (up to 28 weekly hours), remote position. Office hours of operation are Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm CST.

Flexible work schedules welcome. Some in-person training anticipated annually.

Minimum Qualifications

An Associate's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 1 year of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.

Preferred Qualifications

  • At least 2 years experience working with military-affiliated population in higher education setting
  • Working knowledge of VA-Once Legacy or VA Enrollment Manager system
  • Working knowledge of PeopleSoft Campus Solutions
  • Working knowledge of DoD Air Force and Army Tuition Assistance portal
Anticipated Hiring Range

$22.25 - $25.00 per hour, commensurate with education, experience, and internal equity.
