TITLE: Hourly Intern II

HOURLY RATE: $19.50

LOCATION: Riverview 150 Broadway, Suite 350, Menands NY 12204

ANTICIPATED START DATE AND END DATE: (potential) Start: 9/8/25 (potential) End: 12/16/25

APPROXIMATE NUMBER OF HOURS/WEEK: 20 hours per week

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Qualified candidates must be either an MPH or an MS Epidemiology student at SUNY Albany's School of Public Health; AND must have completed at least 24 credits of coursework toward their degree including at least four of the core courses; AND must have maintained a GPA of 3.0 or better AND are unable to participate in an internship if on academic probation.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: proficient in MS word, PowerPoint; basic understanding of social determinants of health and/or health equity

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. The student will attend trainings and conduct research to build an understanding of the barriers to communication people with disabilities experience in the healthcare setting.
  2. Student will coordinate activities related to developing focus group sessions, including notes capture at planning meetings and stakeholder engagement sessions; develop drafts of questions for focus groups; test questions to assess utility before launching focus groups; partner with DHP manager to schedule focus group sessions; participate in data collection; lead or more discussions; and partner with DHP team to assess data and develop report with recommendations for needed policy , system, or environmental changes.
  3. Student will work with DHP team and relevant partners to develop questions for providers in a healthcare setting, related to their effective communication strategies. Student will be responsible for maintaining drafts of questions and updates. Student will research current laws and regulations that would inform policy strategies in healthcare related to effective communication. Student will review current laws and regulations to assess policies for their impact on public health and health equity.
  4. Student will conduct research on communication boards; collaborate with DHP team and relevant partners to identify key icons/images that should be included in communication board; develop drafts; test board with relevant partners; and complete communication board.



DETAILS OF EMPLOYMENT: Student Intern will be funded under HRI Grant GR150203304, Improving the Health of People with Mobility Limitations and Intellectual/Developmental Disabilities through

State-based Public Health Programs, which funds the NYSDOH Disability and Health Program. Student will work 20 hours per week, September - December 2025, flexible schedule between hours of 7:30 a and 5 p.

Hourly, grant funded position. Compliance with funding requirements such as time and effort reporting, grant deliverables, and contract deliverables, is required.
