Wake County Public Library is looking to hire their next Youth Services Librarian to engage directly with our youngest Wake County citizens and have the chance to share the magic of the library with the community. From delivering captivating programs, to offering personalized service and working on a service desk, you'll create unforgettable experiences that inspire a lifelong love of reading and learning. Your role will be essential in connecting children and caregivers with the library's resources, fostering relationships and building community.
Key Responsibilities of a Youth Services Librarian:
Create Engaging Programs:
Unleash your creativity by designing and implementing dynamic programs for children of all ages
Create these experiences to spark curiosity and joy
Lead Confidently:
Take charge in the absence of the library manager(s) to ensure the smooth operations of the library
Be a support and resource for your colleagues
Collaborate with Passion:
Join forces with a dedicated team to brainstorm, plan and execute programs, projects and maintain collections
Contribute your unique strengths while fostering an environment of support, innovation and shared success
Build Strong Community:
Work with managers and peers to establish and nurture strong relationships with the community
Promote library services and forge relationships that enhance our programs and services
Work directly with the public providing excellent customer service, reference and readers advisory services

Schedule:
Mon thru Wed 8: 30 am - 5: 30 pm
Thursday 12 pm - 9 pm
Friday 8: 30 am - 5: 30 pm
Weekend hours - Saturday 8: 30 am - 5: 30 pm; Sunday 12 pm - 5 pm (every 4 weeks)

The Basics (Required Education and Experience)
Master's degree in Librarianship or related field: MLS, MLIS, MIS, ML from an ALA accredited program or NC program
No specific experience required
Equivalent education and experience are NOT accepted

Beyond the Basics (Preferred Education and Experience)
Coursework in youth services
One year of professional public library experience working with children
Spanish language skills

Excels at providing customer service
Is energetic, motivated, detail-oriented and flexible
Has great technology skills

Builds and maintains positive and respectful working relationships
About This Position
Location: Wendell Library Wendell, North Carolina 27591
Employment Type: Regular
Work Schedule: 40 hrs. per week, combo days, evenings, and regular weekend rotation
Hiring Range: 26.16 - 37.81
Market Range: 26.16 - 37.81
