Job Overview:

The Tennessee Department of Treasury is seeking an Investment Analyst to support the Strategic Lending (alternative credit) investment program within the Tennessee Consolidated Retirement System (TCRS). This position offers an opportunity to work collaboratively with an experienced team of investment professionals in a growing and diverse asset class. The successful candidate will work in the Treasury's Nashville, Tennessee offices once pandemic restrictions are lifted. The Strategic Lending portfolio represents over $8 billion in net asset value as one of the three alternatives portfolios within the TCRS, and has a target allocation of 10% in the plan. The Strategic Lending team invests most of its assets with external investment managers that allocate to private credit, high yield bonds, bank loans, structured credit, among others. This position offers substantial opportunities to participate in a very dynamic part of the investment profession.

Key Responsibilities:

Maintain and utilize the alternative investment management system:

  1. Manage and own data and documentation upload processes related to portfolio transactions, etc.
  2. Generate a draft weekly report from the system.
  3. Develop expertise in the system Support due diligence, selection, and closing of new strategic lending investments
  4. Help to monitor existing investments and maintain relationships with current external investment managers.
  5. Reconcile quarterly performance and annual investment costs for the portfolio Contribute to broader alternative investment portfolio discussions.
  6. Contribute to the management of TCRS and other Treasury portfolios Occasional travel to annual meetings, conferences, onsite due diligence, and/or training.
  7. This position will typically travel approximately 6 times per year for 1-4 days each.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Graduation from a four-year college or university with a bachelors degree in an appropriate discipline.
  2. Proficient Microsoft Excel skills High standards of personal and professional ethics Excellent communication skills (oral and written).
  3. Team player with good interpersonal / relationship skills Energetic, inquisitive, analytical, self-reflective, and organized.
  4. Willingness to work toward obtaining the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) and/or Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA) professional designations.
  5. Preferred Qualifications: 0 - 3 years of relevant experience.
