Requirements

Georgetown Law is home to over 20 Centers and Institutes comprising approximately 170 staff members and 25 faculty directors. Each Center and Institute is a hub of expertise, developing innovative legal and policy solutions to the major challenges of our time while educating the next generation of leaders. The Centers & Institutes Management Office supports these entities through strategic, administrative, and operational guidance, and often serves as an incubator for programs and processes that advance the broader mission of the Law Center.

The Senior Executive Director of Centers and Institutes is a key member of Georgetown Law's senior staff. They lead the administration and operations of the Law Center's Centers and Institutes and provide strategic advice to the Chief Operating Officer of the Law Center, carrying out special projects at the COO's request. In partnership with the COO and Deputy COO, the Senior Executive Director is responsible for stewarding organizational strategy, policy, financial health, talent development, and operational effectiveness. This role requires exceptional emotional intelligence and the ability to lead with empathy, sound judgment, and discretion. Additional duties include, but are not limited to:
  • As a cross-functional leader working with faculty, senior administrators, and external stakeholders, navigate complex and politically nuanced issues with a collaborative and diplomatic approach.
  • Sustain momentum for long-term initiatives while effectively managing change in a mission-driven, highly matrixed environment.
  • Supervise the Centers & Institutes Management Office, including roles such as Director, Operations Manager, Events and Communications Manager, and Business Associate, with potential for future expansion.
  • Serve on the C&I Faculty Committee, advising on the establishment and evaluation of Centers and Institutes.
  • Build trust-based relationships across complex organizational structures, communicate with clarity and diplomacy, and manage sensitive matters involving varied stakeholder priorities.


Work Interactions

The Senior Executive Director of Centers and Institutes reports directly to the Chief Operating Officer of the Law Center and regularly interacts with staff, students, and faculty-especially Executive and Faculty Directors of the Centers and Institutes. The role also involves regular collaboration with senior officials across the Law Center and University on matters related to HR, space, finance, and strategic initiatives.

Requirements and Qualifications
  • J.D. or Master's degree
  • At least 10 years of progressive administrative experience and 5 years of supervisory experience
  • Demonstrated emotional intelligence and a proven ability to lead through complexity, manage sensitive situations diplomatically, and foster inclusive collaboration across diverse stakeholder groups
  • Exceptionally strong management and professional mentoring skills


Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience stewarding organizational infrastructure in nonprofit or philanthropic settings
  • Strong writing and verbal communication skills
  • Significant experience in academic administration and project management

Pay Range:

The projected salary or hourly pay range for this position which represents the full range of anticipated compensation is:
$103,723.00 - $202,778.93

Compensation is determined by a number of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate's individual qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications, as well as the University's business needs and external factors.
