Overview

Beyond New Horizons, LLC (BNH) has an exciting opportunity for an Technical Specialist, supporting TOS II, at Tunnel 9 in White Oak, Maryland. The Engineering Technician will be working as a member of an integrated team responsible for operating and maintaining the United States Air Force Test Operations and Sustainment efforts.

Job Summary

The Technical Specialist will apply engineering principles and troubleshooting skills to ensure the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of facility physical and intangible assets. This position requires a proactive individual capable of independent judgment, strong communication skills, and a commitment to continuous improvement.

Job Duties:

    Analyze and evaluate data and system operation during test operations based upon techniques prescribed by senior engineers or supervisors to ensure systems are functioning to specifications.
  • Gather requirements, design test peculiar configuration, develop test peculiar setup information (drawings, setup sheets, etc.), develop/update test setup work instructions.
  • Select and apply standard engineering methods, techniques, procedures, and criteria, using independent judgment in making recommendations for modification to wind tunnel systems.
  • Ensure systems are calibrated and traceable to calibration and data quality standards.
  • Coordinate complex engineering and administrative problems needing resolution with engineers, test customers, and other test team members.
  • Inspect, troubleshoot, maintain, and operate various mechanical and test systems, such as gas and liquid pumps, compressors, high-pressure tubing systems, valves, cylinders, etc.
  • Maintain operator currency of various industrial control systems.
  • Support assembly and disassembly precision mechanical components in a lab environment as well as in the field.
  • Oversee the development of the Tunnel 9 asset sustainment program, encouraging continued advancement of a reliability-centered maintenance approach. Work closely with the Asset Health Assurance branch to move asset sustainment toward condition-based and predictive maintenance.
  • Support development and review of Tunnel 9 facility mechanical engineering designs, engineering analysis, and system baseline hazard analyses to ensure requirements are satisfied.
  • Support development and review of facility subsystem work instructions to ensure requirements are satisfied and safe operation of the facility.
  • Coordinate complex engineering and administrative problems needing resolution with engineers, test customers, and other test team members.
  • Communicate effectively with coworkers.

  • It is a condition of employment to wear company-issued PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) in accordance with supervisory direction and company policy.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Basic Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent with 10 years of progressive and relevant experience or any equivalent combination of education and progressive and relevant experience.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance and the AEDC local area network.
  • Current U. S. Citizenship required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Active SECRET clearance
  • Familiarity with safety regulations and procedures in a high-risk setting
