Description

The Principal Electrical Engineer is responsible for specifying, designing, integrating, and testing circuit cards and modules for DOD ground and airborne applications. As a Principal Engineer, he or she must possess an expert level of understanding and wide application of technical standards, theories, principles, and concepts in some of the discipline's domains. The candidate will contribute to the development of new principles and concepts. The successful candidate manages and mitigates technical risk on projects as required to achieve the team's objectives.

Candidates must exhibit a high degree of initiative and sound judgment, working independently and as a member of the Electrical Hardware Development Team. It is essential the individual be capable of adapting to changing conditions and work cooperatively in a team environment. This role calls for someone who is accountable, self-starting, a good communicator, and raises his/her hand to help push the team forward.

The candidate will be tasked to design and develop circuit card assemblies (CCA) and modules. The Electrical Engineer should be experienced in all aspects of circuit design from concept through delivery to higher level assemblies as evidenced by successful design completions (including hardware/firmware designs with microcontrollers or microprocessors, FPGAs, memory, and industry interfaces such as PCIe, Ethernet, I2C, UART). The candidate shall have a strong and demonstrated background in general RF development principles and use of test equipment to verify components and systems such as use of Vector Network Analyzers and Spectrum Analyzers.

The position requires the candidate to specify, source, integrate, and leverage commercially available and government-sourced equipment for rapid capability prototype delivery. The position requires the candidate to synthesize & document solutions, troubleshoot electrical design and installation errors, support Root Cause Corrective Action reports to the wider product team, and support test and delivery within the bounds of a given schedule. The candidate and team will be required to integrate aircraft power, low voltage DC control signals, ethernet, digital discrete input/output, and analog signals for the functional system. The candidate shall utilize simulation tools such as SPICE to model electronics behavior and use ADS, HFSS, or other field solvers to study operating characteristics of high speed and RF systems. The candidate shall design analog circuits to meet a set of performance requirements. The candidate shall perform component selection and schematic capture. The candidate shall guide Electronic Computer-Aided Design (ECAD) personnel through PWB layout of circuitry and technical drawing creation. The candidate shall utilize analysis tools like Mathcad and/or MATLAB to assess electrical design robustness of circuitry.

The candidate shall perform and present design reviews to program leadership and technical staff, integrate equipment into subsystems and systems, characterize equipment, and perform testing which will require a high degree of onsite presence at a minimum of three days locally, immediately. The candidate is also expected to mentor and demonstrate results of having mentored junior engineers.

The candidate must be proficient with Microsoft Office suite as routine communication will occur through Teams, OneNote, Azure DevOps, Excel, and e-mail.

Required Skills:

  • Must be a US Citizen with ability to obtain a DoD Secret level clearance.
  • Minimum of 10 years engineering design experience and a bachelor's degree in engineering or related STEM field, or a master's degree with 8 or more years of relevant experience
  • Must be a self-starter, a quick learner, and be able to function in a dynamic environment, and have good time management skills
  • Strong planning and organizational skills with ability to be adaptable to changing priorities and assignments.
  • Experience capturing key characteristics & requirements for systems, performing trade studies
  • Ability to take a design concept from the block diagram or requirements level and develop a complete hardware design leveraging COTS solutions, and verify via test
  • Capable of functioning in multi-disciplined design teams across multiple projects
  • Must have experience using SPICE (or similar), and other circuit simulation tools.
