This is a mid-shift from 9am to 9pm. No Call Required. Sign on bonus up to $15,000 available for qualified candidates Department Information:Performing an average of 7,000 cases each year, the Operating Room at SMJH has 8 OR suites and offers a variety of service lines including; Complex GYN, Neurosurgery, Vascular/Thoracic and Orthopedic surgery. It is also the 2nd highest-performing OR in the Sentara system for Orthopedic total joint procedures. Sentara Martha Jefferson has under a 12.6% RN Turnover rate Patient Satisfaction scores are highest in the system at Martha Jefferson Sentara Martha Jefferson Foundation education assistance program up to $32,500 Free Parking at Sentara Martha Jefferson The Surgical Assistant II works as a 1st or 2nd assistant to the surgeon and under the direction/supervision of that surgeon and in accordance with hospital policy and appropriate laws and regulations. The Surgical Assistant works as part of a multidisciplinary surgical team, collaborating with nurses, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare professionals to deliver high-quality patient care. Education Graduate of CAAHEP (Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs) accredited Surgical Assistant Program required. Trade School Graduate- Required. Certification/Licensure Surgical Assistant license required for appropriate state of practice Required BLS certification Required One of the following certifications required: Certified Surgical Assistant (CSA) - Certifications - National Commission for the Certification of Surgical Assistants (NCCSA), Certified Surgical Technologist/First Assistant (CST/CSFA) - Certifications - National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) Experience Demonstrates in depth clinical and technical skills in 3 surgical specialties. Participates in departmental improvement efforts to include quality improvement projects, conducting in-services, etc. Participates in the orientation process for new employees and the educational instruction for the Surgical Assistant student, intern, or extern Graduate of CAAHEP (Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs) accredited Surgical Assistant Program. 3 years of experience as a surgical assistant Required.
