About the Job

Dr. Alexander Khoruts is looking to hire a postdoctoral associate to assist them with bioinformatics related to their research. Ideal candidates will be expected to employ state-of-the-art computational tools to analyze phylogenetic, metagenomic and multi-omics data sets generated from different clinical trials. Applicants will also be expected to engage with the research team in discussing the results, participate in writing manuscripts & preparing grant proposals, and contribute to training & mentoring students. There will be opportunities for professional skill development and career enhancement as well in this position.

Job Duties:
1. Data analysis (70%)
2. Scientific writing, figure preparation (20%)
3. Collaborative work and teaching within the research team (10%)

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:
Education:
- Doctoral degree in bioinformatics, biostatistics, computational (micro)biology, genomics, computer science, quantitative biology, or related field by the time of the appointment.

Skills:
- Experience with the analysis of shotgun metagenomics and taxonomic data in the context of human biology.
- Strong skills in R programming
- Working knowledge of Python
- Experience with basic analyses to characterize gut microbiomes, including diversity analysis, differential abundance analysis, modeling microbial and host interactions through network analysis, machine learning.
- Ability to map microbial genes to biochemical pathway analysis
- Excellence in research, communication and collaboration skills, as evidenced by
publication record
- Experience with collaborative interdisciplinary research
- Ability to effectively communicate, both verbally and writing

Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in multi-omics data integration
- A record of publication in peer reviewed journals
- The ability to meet strict deadlines.

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range:$65,000-80,000 annually ; depending on NIH Stipend levels and education/qualifications/experience

Time Appointment Category: 75%-100% Appointment (If job description above does not specify appointment or expected weekly hours, assume a 100% appointment.)
