Inova Central Lab is looking for a dedicated Histology Cytology Preparation Technician to join the team. This role will be PRN with potential shift start times of 5am or 2pm

Histology Cytology Preparation Technician Job Responsibilities:



  • Resolves problems or communicates unresolved problems to the staff/management while maintaining coworker confidentiality.
  • Ensures cytology/histology request forms include all pertinent patient information, attending/ordering physician and correct anatomical site.
  • Ensures proper stain levels are maintained, covers all staining solutions and mounting media when not in use and stores them at the proper temperature.
  • Identifies/properly documents unacceptable specimens and properly disposes of specimens when completed.
  • Obtains/processes pathology specimens while maintaining positive specimen identification, assisting histology technicians and maintaining laboratory equipment to ensure the quality preparation of all specimens.
  • Process specimens in appropriate processors/programs to ensure maximum quality of specimen processing.
  • Receives, processes and prepares histologic and cytologic specimens by using standard operating procedures to ensure quality test results for cytologist/pathologist diagnosis.
  • Ensures final preparation products are free of procedural variance artifacts.
  • May perform additional duties as assigned.


Additional Requirements



  • Education: High School diploma equivalent
  • Experience: no experience required
