Job Description |
The Director of Grants manages external and internal funding efforts that support Harford Community College's Strategic Plan and institutional priorities. This includes securing and overseeing grants from federal, state, local, corporate, and foundation sources, as well as coordinating the internal Grants for Innovation program administered by the Harford Community College Foundation.
The Director partners with college leadership, faculty, staff, the Institutional Advancement department, and the Finance department to identify funding opportunities, lead proposal development, and ensure compliance with awarded funds. Responsibilities include writing and supervising grant applications, managing budgets and timelines, maintaining reporting procedures, and ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations and policies. The Director also provides training and guidance on grant processes and ensures prompt, effective support through the Grants Office.
This position participates in statewide professional groups, presents to the Foundation Board, prepares reports, and supervises a full-time Grant Associate. The Director reports to the Executive Director of the Harford Community College Foundation.
Employees of Harford Community College, including instructors for online and virtual courses, must be residents of Maryland or the contiguous states of Delaware, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia or the District of Columbia; non-residents are expected to relocate to meet this requirement.

Minimum of five years of experience planning and implementing grants, to include:
- Grants Management with a focus on pre-award and post-award processes
- Developed or maintained grant systems: i.e. tracking awards, grant's spend down, PI/grant manager accountability, time and effort reporting, close out procedures
- Pursuit of grant opportunities-foundations, federal, state and local

Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities |
- Compliance knowledge to include work with the Uniform Guidance for federal grants
- Excellent writing, communication, and organizational skills
- Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Suite applications, including SharePoint, Word, Excel, and Teams
- Ability to collaborate with multiple stakeholders (leadership, faculty, staff) to achieve tangible goals for pre-award and post-award
- Project management skills

Preferred Qualifications |
- Higher Education experience
- Certification in grant writing or management (i.e. Grant Professional Certified or Certified Grant Writer)
- Grant Writing experience
- Perkins grant experience
- Supervisory experience
