JOB SUMMARY:

The site EHS Specialist will be responsible for executing company safety policies and ensure compliance to all applicable local and regional regulations. By leveraging lean principles, you will lead continuous improvement initiatives to reduce conditional and ergonomic risk in our processes to ensure a safe and healthful working environment for our employees. A successful site EHS Specialist will demonstrate the ability to build trust and confidence with the Operations Teams and inspire change through providing comprehensive risk assessments and safety data analysis.

The site EHS Specialist must be an effective communicator and send clear, concise and consistent messages, both verbally and in writing. You will instruct and train employees on our safety and environmental standards in the workplace. You will work to identify best practices and incorporate these standard methodologies into our standards to continuously improve the EHS landscape. The site EHS Specialist will possess excellent safety program knowledge as well as environmental and ergonomic knowledge and be able demonstrate this expertise when working with Operations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Train employees on health and safety policies, procedures and best practices.
  • Conduct inspections and identify hazards and EHS violations.
  • Develop, implement and manage safety programs.
  • Perform frequent site safety audits to identify all non-compliance equipment and/or processes at the site. Implement solutions to eliminate exposure to these risks and prevent injuries.
  • Organize and oversee all required safety training in order to ensure site leadership and Associates are trained and knowledgeable of their responsibilities under each policy. Audit the quality, delivery (including qualifications of the trainer), and effectiveness of all required safety training.
  • Provide safety orientation to new employees.
  • Investigate and prepare presentations for all incidents and property losses and monthly/quarterly/annual summaries.
  • Conduct Management of change on new equipment and environmental impacts.
  • Identify gaps in training curriculum by analyzing injury/illness data.
  • Assist inspection personnel from insurance carriers, OSHA, EPA, DOT, etc.
  • Manage all federal, state and local environmental permits and ensure compliance.
  • Assist in purchasing appropriate personal protective equipment.
  • Maintain accurate EHS data including timely maintenance of OSHA 300 log, workman's comp and SDS sheets.
  • Lead the development of a robust safety culture through championship of the safety committee and serving as a site safety mentor for visitors and all employees.
  • Perform any other duties established by site EHS Manager.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in occupational safety or equivalent preferred.
  • Minimum of 1-3 years' experience as an EHS Coordinator/Specialist preferred.
  • Knowledge of appropriate software including: MS Word, Excel and Outlook, Microsoft PowerPoint and Adobe Acrobat

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Sedentary work: exerting up to 30 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. This work required sitting most of the time.
  • Daily walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing for sustained periods of time, walking, pushing, pulling and lifting.
  • Required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; expansive reading.
