Idaho National Laboratory is hiring a Computational Scientist to work on our Computational Frameworks team. Our team works a 9x80 schedule located out of our REC facility with every other Friday off. Develop advanced scientific numerical packages, frameworks, and multi-physics analysis tools for scientific applications. Develop models, methodologies, and verification/validation strategies supporting complex multi-physics applications. Utilize advanced programming skills to develop finite elements and other numerical applications. Work may include structural mechanics, fracture mechanics, engineering contact mechanics, computational materials science, computational fluid dynamics, computational chemistry, radiation transport, fuel restructuring, and nuclear fuel performance using various numerical methods. Responsibilities Include:
- Develop, support, maintain, and document advanced multi-physics analysis tools for use in specific technical subject areas.
- Implement models, methods, and verification/validation strategies for these tools.
- Test innovative technologies and application programs to demonstrate correctness, robustness, and adequacy according to requirements specified by a wide variety of customers.
- Perform computational studies in support of assigned technical area's goals and objectives. * Perform data collection, analysis, and assimilation.
- Participate in, and/or potentially lead, the design, planning, and execution of modeling- and simulation-related research and development projects.
- Represent the interests of INL through partnerships and connections with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), other U.S. national laboratories, industry, technology end users, and academia.
- Develop technical reports, peer-reviewed publications, proposals, and presentations for internal and external customers.
- Identify and develop new program opportunities.
- Establish and maintain up-to-date knowledge in key technical areas.
- Depending on level, may lead computational multi-physics methods and code development software teams.
- Participate in professional activities, university interactions, special assignments, and external special interest groups.

Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- Level 2: Masters degree in physics, thermal fluids or related; Or a PhD in physics, thermal fluids or related degree.
- Level 3: Masters degree in physics, thermal fluids or related and 2 years of relevant experience ; Or a PhD in physics, thermal fluids or related degree and 2 years of relevant experience.
- Proficiency in C++, and Python object-oriented programming languages, finite-element methods, advanced numerical methods for nonlinear analysis, and the development of complex engineering analysis software.

Job Information:
- The pay range for this position is: Level 2 ($77,628 - $159,228) / Level 3 ($93,204 - $191,076). At Idaho National Laboratory compensation decisions are determined using factors such as education, relevant experience, and other credentials.
- Multi-Level: This is a multi-level posting and you will be placed at the appropriate level dependent on depth and breadth of proven experience and skills.
Physical Requirements While performing the duties of this classification, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, stoop, kneel, bend.
