Position Summary: Responsible for scheduling, managing, and conducting fieldwork and research associated with archaeological projects and for writing all, or portions of, archaeological reports. This position is not eligible for employer-based sponsorship with the exception of the TN visa classification.



Essential Functions and Responsibilities



  • Conducts archaeological field work to locate and identify archaeological sites
  • Collects data and field samples during archaeological investigations
  • Conducts geoarchaeological analysis of pre-contact sites
  • Documents methodologies and findings of research and archaeological investigations
  • Writes relevant sections of archaeological reports
  • Assists in making decisions about project alternatives and the resolution of adverse effects to archaeological resources
  • Works with technical field, lab and office staff, managers and administrative staff to ensure that projects meet JMT and professional quality standards
  • Assists Section Head in preparation of scopes of work, fee proposals, and responses to RFP's, including teaming arrangements and attending and presenting at project/contract interviews



Nonessential Functions and Responsibilities



  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Required Experience

  • Master's Degree from an accredited school in archaeology and 5+ years of related experience
  • Must meet the Secretary of the Interior's Qualification Standards for Archaeologists
  • Meet TxDOT qualifications for geoarchaeologists



Working Conditions

Work is performed in the field 50% of the time. Ability to extensively perform bending, kneeling, standing, shoveling, and lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 50 lbs as needed. Work may be conducted outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions.

Work is performed within a general office or lab environment 50% of the time. Office work is generally sedentary in nature but may require occasional standing and walking. Lighting and temperature are adequate and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. within the office environment.
