DESCRIPTION OF WORK

Old Economy Village, located in Ambridge, Pennsylvania, is the historic home of the Harmony Society, one of the oldest and most successful religious communal groups of the 19th century. This six-acre National Historic Landmark welcomes thousands of visitors annually and features sixteen historically significant buildings, an acre of historic gardens, the Harmonist cemetery, and a modern Visitor Center.

As the Facility Operations Supervisor, you will supervise and actively perform the work necessary to maintain the historic site's structures, physical systems/infrastructure, and grounds. You will be called upon to exercise your supervision, carpentry, construction, electrical, landscape, mechanical, plumbing, and other trades skills on a daily basis. Additionally, you will be responsible for ensuring that the site is clean, presentable, and ready for the enjoyment of those who visit. You will have the opportunity to work with the Site Administrator and other PHMC staff to plan and implement maintenance projects at the historic site. Duties include, planning, budgeting, procurement of materials and services, coordination and oversight of staff and outside contractors, prioritization of work, active participation in project labor, and overall project management. You will lead a small team, providing them the necessary instruction and training to accomplish all maintenance duties. You will also be responsible for enforcing all safety rules and overseeing the site's fire and security systems.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Sunday - Thursday, with a 30-minute lunch.
    • Occasional evening, weekend, and holiday work is required for special events and operational needs.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Two years of skilled trades work experience in commercial, industrial, multi-unit residential facilities, or utility plant operations; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Special Requirements:

  • This position requires possession of an active motor vehicle license.

Additional Requirements:

  • Must have two or more years of experience in:
    • Carpentry and construction: performing minor carpentry, construction, and metalworking tasks using power tools (e.g., saws, drills, sanders) for repairs, installations, and fabrications.
    • Electrical Maintenance: Installing circuits, outlets, lighting fixtures, and general wiring, as well as reconditioning electrical equipment and maintaining internet/phone lines per N.E.C. standards.
    • Plumbing Maintenance: Installing and maintaining plumbing fixtures, commodes, spigots, and steam lines, ensuring compliance with plumbing standards.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Preferred Qualifications (not required):

  • Experience managing HVAC and fire/security systems, including building control, boilers, air handling, and fire suppression systems
  • Experience operating and repairing lawn care, landscaping, and snow removal equipment, including turf maintenance, shrub care, tree trimming, and walkway upkeep

  • This position falls under the provisions of the Child Protective Services Law.
