Transportation Construction Inspector

This role functions as a County Permit Inspector, tasked with overseeing the District Highway Occupancy Program within designated counties. The inspector collaborates with the Posted & Bonded Road Inspector to conduct evaluations of both Heavy and Regular Hauling activities on roadways. The position entails managing the operations of the County Highway Occupancy Permit Office, ensuring compliance with departmental regulations, policies, and procedures related to the review and issuance of Highway Occupancy Permits, which includes conducting construction inspections. The inspector is responsible for completing inspections associated with all permits issued, necessitating a comprehensive understanding of the highway occupancy permit program, including the ability to explain relevant forms to customers and implement their use effectively. Additionally, the role requires strong organizational skills to plan and execute tasks within the legal and policy-mandated timeframes. The inspector also performs spot checks on work conducted within or impacting the right-of-way to ensure adherence to departmental permit regulations. Furthermore, this position serves as a lead worker for other Department Inspectors and may involve directing consultant staff by planning, organizing, and assigning specific duties to ensure efficient operations.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

• Full-time employment
• Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
• Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, based on project assignments. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Hollidaysburg. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time.
• Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $45,907.00 (before taxes).

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

• One year as an Engineering Technician (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
• Two years as a Transportation Technician or Construction Cost Technician 1 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
• Three years of experience in highway or bridge surveying, design, construction, or inspection work; or
• Three years of experience in quality control of materials or building or construction industry experience, which includes reading and interpreting blueprints, plans, or schematics; or
• One year of construction inspection experience, and an associate's degree in civil engineering, mechanical engineering, geotechnical engineering, surveying engineering technology, or a closely related engineering technology; or
• An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Special Requirements:

• This position requires possession of an active non-commercial Pennsylvania Class C Driver's License or equivalent.
