This position is part of Novanta's Corporate and Shared Services global teams. Novanta's Corporate and Shared Services teams play an important role in executing the company's strategic mission and operations. Included in Corporate and Shared Services are the business functions including Finance, Accounting, Human Resources, Information Technology, Legal, Compliance, Corporate Development, and Corporate Marketing. The Corporate and Shared Services teams work closely with all Novanta business units to support operating initiatives contributing to the organization's financial success.

Summary:

Reporting to the Chief Human Resource Officer (CHRO) and participating as a member of the Novanta Extended Leadership Team (ELT), the Senior Vice President (SVP) of Talent will lead the strategic direction and delivery of Novanta's talent management program. Partnering with the Novanta Leadership Team and HR organization, the SVP of Talent is accountable for developing and implementing a comprehensive talent strategy that builds a high performing culture and a highly engaged workforce with the right skills, capabilities and leadership to accelerate Novanta's growth to a $2b+ business. Excellence in this role will be achieved through the integration of the right talent tools and technology, enabled by effective, user-centric business processes, operated by capable leaders and HR team members, all in the context of a high performing organizational culture.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Strategic Talent Leadership: Serve as the thought leader and subject matter expert across the entire talent portfolio, driving the development and execution of a strategic talent agenda that aligns with Novanta's business goals.
  • Strategic Workforce Planning: Use internal and external data to plan and anticipate changes in Novanta's talent needs over the strategic planning period.
  • Culture Architect: Lead initiatives to strengthen Novanta's company culture, ensuring alignment with the company's values and mission. Building on our established programs, promote a culture of inclusion and belonging for all employees.
  • Talent Planning and Assessment: Drive the talent planning process across Novanta, including a strategic view on multi-year workforce planning, facilitating talent planning sessions with business leaders, and tracking talent movement and actions. Conduct comprehensive assessments of the existing talent pipeline, identifying skill gaps, risks, and opportunities for growth.
  • Succession Planning: Develop and implement effective succession planning strategies for executive roles and critical talent, ensuring a strong leadership bench for senior-level and critical roles across the enterprise.
  • Employee Engagement: Develop and implement strategies to build high levels of employee engagement across the organization. Foster a positive work environment that encourages collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.
  • Talent Solutions: Build and maintain external partnerships with providers to enable talent assessment, development and benchmarking solutions for Novanta.
Required Experience, Education, Skills, Training, and Competencies:
  • Bachelor's degree in human resources, business administration, or a related field. Master's degree preferred.
  • Proven experience in a strategic talent management or advisory role, with a focus on talent pipeline development and succession planning.
  • Advanced knowledge of talent and succession planning, organization development and design, and leadership assessment processes.
  • Strong understanding of talent management principles, practices, and challenges.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess complex talent issues and develop effective strategies.
  • Strong communication and influencing skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with various stakeholders, including leaders, HR business partners, and talent acquisition teams.
  • Ability to think strategically combined with a hard wiring to execute.
  • Drive to deliver results, accountability, and ownership of work, and operate with a continuous improvement mindset.
  • High energy, self-starter who can work independently and within a team environment.
  • Travel Requirements: Up to 40% including global locations.
Physical Requirements:
  • Mobility to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer.
  • Ability to use vision to read computer screens and printed materials.

  • Data-centric: Comfortable mining for data and using this to create talent insights and build leadership support for talent programs.
