POSITION SUMMARY In addition to typical Youth Development Specialist requirements, the Assistant Supervisors are expected to act as leaders on their respective shifts, conveying consistency, purpose, expectations, accountability, and direction to the YDS they work with. Additionally, they will act as models of youth engagement, taking ownership of creating a therapeutic milieu, displaying appropriate de-escalation techniques, and encouraging fellow staff to engage intentionally and regularly. Assistant Supervisors act as the central trainers for on-the-job training of new hires, and they will take on additional responsibilities such as coordination of intake, discharge, cleaning vans, allowance, etc. Additionally, Assistant Supervisors are the Campus Programs leader during their shifts, assisting in any crisis and directing emergency personnel when they are the highest ranking staff on campus. ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop and maintain supportive, consistent, and therapeutic relationships with children and youth, including maintenance of clear roles and boundaries.
- Structure residential milieu to ensure physical and emotional safety of children and youth, in accordance with established policies and procedures and aligned with the mission and philosophy of DABSJ.
- Deliver services according to established treatment plans for each child, including dispensing medications according to established schedules and protocols.
- Facilitate therapeutic, recreational, and psycho-educational activities according to established schedules and parameters.
- Effectively document children's activities, behaviors, emotional responses, and progress toward treatment plan goals.
- Participate in team and staff meetings, including supervision and staff development opportunities.
- Work shifts as scheduled, arranging for coverage only according to established policies and procedures.
Additional Assistant Supervisor Responsibilities:
- Provide leadership and oversight to Youth Development Specialist's during shift.
- Delegate tasks and responsibilities to Youth Development Specialist during shift, ensuring all necessary tasks and documentation are completed according to protocol; Residential daily plan, schedule, campus overlap, assign tasks to other YDS as appropriate.
- Ensure the accurate completion of medication passing and medication pass check; assign YDS staff to double-check near shift end.
- Complete and submit, or delegate, all maintenance and IT repair requests
- Coordination of all on-call supervisor communication regarding crisis and restrictive interventions,
- On campus crisis and safety coordination
- Monitor off-campus activities; assign staff to complete transports and ensure completion of off-campus activity forms.
- Will act as the primary staff for on-the-job training of new hires, ensuring their understanding of purpose, expectations, and their new hire training and orientation checklist.
Supervision Received: Specific Direction - Follows established work procedures. Receives periodic checks for performance. Refers unique questions/conditions to immediate supervisor. Additionally, YDS will meet with assigned supervisor once weekly for the first 90 days. After successful completion of 90 days, YDS could meet with assigned supervisor on bi-weekly basis. Supervisory Responsibilities: N/A MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience working with children and youth with emotional and behavioral challenges strongly preferred.
- 2 years of experience in a CCI
- High school diploma required, with some college education in psychology, social work, sociology, youth and family studies or related field preferred.
- Positive acceptance of supervision to learn and be trained in job-related functions.
- Ability to work with various people within and outside the Agency.
- Promote a positive image for the Agency in the community and in relationship with other Agencies and their personnel.
- Valid driver's license and good driving record Possess an understanding and sensitivity to the client's socioeconomic characteristics with personal qualities of warmth with the ability to establish meaningful relationships with people from various cultures.
- The capacity to make sound decisions.
- Effective oral and written communication; confidence and willingness to encourage peers in appropriate actions/engagement.
- Competence in computer use and keyboarding skills.
