Description

Idaho National Laboratory is hiring a Computer Hardware/Software Technician to work on our Computer Systems Engineering team. Our team works a 4x10 schedule located out of our Specific Manufacturing Capabilities (SMC) desert site facility with every Friday off.

You will provide technician support to diagnose and resolve equipment problems for computers and peripherals at the desktop & enterprise levels. Connect, install, test, upgrade, and maintain, including preventive maintenance on enterprise peripherals, hardware, software, network hardware, and software components. Support the telecommunications systems by assembling, evaluating, and testing proposed networking components, and upgrading the backbone networks to new releases of firmware. You will report to the manager for our Computer Systems Engineering team.

Responsibilities Include:



  • Provide technician support to diagnose and resolve equipment installs, tests, upgrades, Software installation, Software updates, and maintains, including preventive maintenance on enterprise peripherals, hardware, software, network hardware, and software components.
  • Repair and maintain equipment while minimizing customer down time.
  • Support and maintain ongoing development and continuous integration testing of research software and computational frameworks for end-user level workstations.
  • Provide administration and support related to applicable operating systems.
  • Manage hardware including racking, networking, and repairing systems as needed.
  • Configure and maintain continuous integration software.
  • Patch and maintain systems in accordance with company cyber-security standards.
  • Assist in developing software in support of any of the above duties.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:



  • Level 2: High School Diploma or Equivalent and at least 2 years directly related experience in IT.
  • Level 3: High School Diploma or Equivalent and at least 4 years directly related experience in IT.
  • CompTIA Security+ or ability to obtain similar level certification within 6 months.
  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy "Q" clearance, which requires US Citizenship.


Ideal Candidate will have:



  • Prior experience working with classified programs.
  • Prior enterprise networking experience with fiber optics and CAT6 wiring.


Job Information:



  • The pay range for this position is: Level 2 ($22.43 - $37.00) / Level 3 ($25.79 - $42.54). At Idaho National Laboratory compensation decisions are determined using factors such as education, relevant experience, and other credentials.
  • TDP: This is a testing designated position; you will be required to submit to a pre-employment drug screen and periodic drug testing throughout the term of your employment.
  • Multi-Level: This is a multi-level posting and you will be placed at the appropriate level dependent on depth and breadth of proven experience and skills.


Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this classification, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, stoop, kneel, bend, use hands to handle materials, manipulate tools, keyboard and type, operate a motor vehicle, reach with hands and arms, and operate job-related equipment. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds with assistance. Sufficient visual acuity and hearing capacity to perform the essential functions and interact with people is required. Position may require overtime/irregular hours and working alone. May be exposed to discomforts associated with constant monitoring of computer video display screens. Intermittent exposure to stress as a result of human behavior and various responsibilities.
