Job Summary

GateWay Community College is now hiring a great new role for the Plumber Senior!
This position will perform the most difficult and complex technical plumbing work in the installation, inspection, maintenance, and repair of water, sewer and other plumbing systems and fixtures. May lead and provide oversight for plumbers performing journey-level plumbing work. To best serve the students, department, and college, this position requires a physical presence on campus.

Essential Functions

30% - Provides lead oversight by directing and overseeing the work of contracted plumbers and reviewing project blueprints and drawings; performs journey-level plumbing installation, inspection, test, maintenance, and repair work on water, sewer, and other plumbing systems and equipment; performs necessary repairs and alterations to plumbing installation, including piping systems and fixtures for water, gas, steam, compressed air, storm drain facilities, and waste disposal systems; and tests, checks, and repairs leaks of liquid or gas plumbing systems.

20%-Clears clogged pipes and grease traps; measures, cuts, threads, or bends various types of pipes; connects pipe sections with appropriate disposal systems.

20%- Install, connect, maintain, and repair backflow devices, appliances, sinks, drains, sump and circulatory pumps, hot water heaters and tanks, valves, fittings, and other pipes and their fittings.

10%-conducts inspection and preventative maintenance of plumbing facilities, equipment, and systems.

10% Reviews materials and parts, obtains quotes, requisitions, estimates job costs, and purchases materials.

10% - Performs general maintenance and cleanup work as required; maintains tools, equipment, and work site in a clean and safe working condition. Maintains work records, logs, work orders (using work order system), and related documentation; attends and participates in meetings and District and/or college-provided training or information sessions; performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED and five (5) years of experience performing plumbing work equivalent to journey-level which includes serving in a lead role in journey-level plumbing work or the performance of advanced, or more technical and complex plumbing work.

OR

An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation.

Desired Qualifications

A. Experience in commercial plumbing installation, maintenance, and/or repair work
B. Performing routine plumbing inspections and preventative maintenance
C. Knowledge of plumbing codes and regulations
D. Backflow Certification
E. Experience using a computer and maintenance software applications such as Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) or similar systems

Special Working Conditions

ADA AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Requires stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.

Heavy Work: Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move, lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects including the human body.

Working Conditions: Work is primarily performed in an indoor environment with moderate exposure to hazardous materials (such as chemicals, fumes, odors, poor ventilation, gasses, blood or other body fluids). Work may sometimes occur in dusty, seldom occupied, or newly renovated facilities and as such, moderate exposure to dust or other particulates can be expected. Some indoor work environments may not be air conditioned. Some work may be performed in small or confined crawl spaces. Portions of work tasks may be completed outdoors which involve exposure to a variety of weather conditions, for short or long durations, including rain, wind, dust, cold temperatures and extreme desert heat. May require the use and climbing of ladders and/or scissor lifts utilizing safety harnesses or other equipment. Some work may be performed in an office/computer workstation and require the use of a computer and keyboard for training, to check emails, and/or communicate with coworkers and supervision. This classification may require that an incumbent be on their feet, standing or walking while performing duties, for the majority, if not all, of a work shift.

Travel and Work Schedule: Travel to various locations at an assigned college or within the District is required. Schedules may consist of shift work, including nights, weekends, holidays, or otherwise non-standard work schedules.
