About this unit

5 Center is an eighteen bed Adult Blood and Marrow Transplant (ABMT) unit located within Butterworth Hospital. This unit specializes in the care of those with oncological diagnoses who are being admitted for their stem cell transplant or re-admitted for transplant complications. The unit also consists of patients with oncology diagnosis and those getting specialized immunotherapy treatments. Specializing in transplant care, running, and maintaining central lines, administering chemotherapy treatments, managing high acuity patients, and providing oncology education to its patients are a couple of the main responsibilities for our nursing staff. Longer stays for patients in this unit are common, allowing the team on 5 Center to build meaningful relationships with the patient and their family. Although this is a specialized unit there is still much to learn due to the variety in patients' conditions in addition to their cancer. Teamwork on this unit is known to be exceptional, and the team is proud to assist one another in tasks that allow all shifts to run smoothly. 5 Center welcomes candidates who have a passion for oncology/stem cell therapy.

Scope of work

Assumes shift accountability for managing, supervising, and coordinating the operational and financial effectiveness and efficiency of the nursing service/ unit of the hospital. Some service lines may require the ability to be available for on-call to better support the nursing service/unit. Additionally, Inpatient Supervisors may be required to fill-in for the hospital supervisor as needed. Key responsibilities include assisting with the following: clinical support, unit based goal setting, program development, fiscal management, resource allocation, standards of care, policy and procedure development and interpretation, performance improvement, performance correction, and coaching and mentoring.

Corewell Health Nurse Supervisors are REQUIRED to obtain their Nursing Administration or Professional/Specialty Certification within 12 months of assuming the role, or within 12 months of achieving eligibility to sit for the exam if not eligible upon hire in to the role.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in nursing (BSN) Required.
• Master's degree in nursing (MSN) Preferred.
• Skills, knowledge, abilities typically gained through 1+ years of related clinical experience (ICU or Critical Care) Required.
• MI Registered Nurse (RN) Required.
• AHA or ARC Basic Life Support (BLS) Required.
• AHA Adv Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Required.
• NIHSS Stroke Certification (NIH) Required.
