Position Summary |
The
UGA blueberry breeding program focuses on developing blueberry cultivars adapted to the South Georgia growing environment and ornamental varieties for home gardening. The research professional will support both field and lab activities and will be responsible for the training and supervision of undergraduate workers. They will direct the daily operations of the Blueberry Research project, including but not limited to, research operations, facilities and equipment maintenance and personnel activities. |

Direct Daily Operations & Research
- Direct daily operations of the Blueberry research project, including but not limited to, research operations, facilities and equipment maintenance and personnel activities
- Maintain research protocols, standard operating procedures and training manuals
- Analyze experimental data and interpret results to write reports and summaries of findings
- Conduct research, including the collection of information and samples
- Facilitate field data collection during flowering and harvesting season
- Conduct plant disease resistance experiments in the greenhouse and field
- Take sample measurements such as flower counts, fruit weight, fruit firmness, Brix, and acidity measurements
- Perform basic molecular work (e.g., DNA extraction, quantification, dilution, PCR reactions)
- Perform routine maintenance of the flow cytometer
- Facilitate nuclei extraction
- Monitor laboratory work to ensure compliance with set standards
- Clean, maintain and prepare supplies and work areas
- Use computers, computer-interfaced equipment and industrial applications to perform work duties
- Input data into databases
