Postdoctoral Associate, Cell Biology/Biochemistry - McCutcheon Lab

We are currently seeking a Postdoctoral Associate within the lab of Dr. John McCutcheon at Arizona State University. The McCutcheon lab studies endosymbiont-to-organelle transitions and associated processes in evolutionary cell biology. We work on non-model insect systems because these animals have the most organelle-like bacterial endosymbionts yet described. Our lab has combined genomics, cell biology, and biochemistry to uncover some remarkable genomic and cell biological parallels between these insect endosymbionts and mitochondria and plastids.

We are seeking a new lab member with expertise in a broad range of cell biological and/or biochemical backgrounds to help continue to move the lab in new research directions. Candidates with expertise in protein purification, organelle purification, protein mass spectrometry, cryo-EM, X-ray crystallography, cell culture infection assays, live-cell imaging, confocal or superresolution light microscopy, or other related techniques are encouraged to apply. We are hoping to find someone who is motivated and passionate about combining their previous experience with ours to study fundamental and exciting biology.

General Qualifications:

• PhD. in structural biology, biochemistry, cell biology or similar.

  • Prior experience with one or more of the techniques listed above a strong plus

• Ability to work both independently and in a collaborative group environment.

• Effective communication skills, self-motivated, and a strong work ethic.
