Communications Specialist

GEICO's Communications Department is seeking a talented and curious individual to join the Associate Communications and Public Relations group. We are looking for someone with superior communications and/or journalism experience who thrives in a creative and innovative environment. Our group is responsible for sharing the most relevant news with GEICO's internal and external community, as well as engaging associates and strengthening our company's culture. To do so, we need talented writers and editors to ensure we communicate with intention and clarity.

As a Communications Specialist, you will become a corporate storyteller, working to define the way our company interacts and communicates. You will be at the pulse of what is going on across the company as you engage with key stakeholders and act as their point person when they want to communicate a message. You will lead communication campaigns from start to finish, working to ensure that associates across the company receive a tailored message in a format that benefits them most.

Job Description:

As Communications Specialist, you will be responsible for working with stakeholders across the company to bring key messages to associates, customers and community members. Your primary responsibilities will include researching, writing and disseminating information about major initiatives; therefore, excellent communication skills are crucial. Attention to detail is also critical for this position as deliverables are viewed and utilized throughout all levels of GEICO, including senior management. Time and project management skills will be very important, as successful candidates will work on recurring projects and a myriad of ad hoc requests.

Successful candidates will be comfortable working independently and have the desire and proven ability to work with stakeholders of all abilities to bring their stories to life.

This position will provide an opportunity to work on a range of projects across multiple departments. As a member of our team, you will have the opportunity to become a subject matter expert and partner closely with leadership in Tech, Diversity and Inclusion, Community Engagement, Marketing and beyond. As such, strong collaboration skills are a must.

This job will be approximately 50% internal communications, 20% PR/marketing, 20% project management, 10% editing.

Candidate Minimum Requirements:

  • Strong and demonstrated editing, writing and reporting skills
  • Strong project management skills
  • B.A./B.S in English, Journalism, Communications, Public Relations or a related field
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
  • Attention to detail and a desire to provide high quality results under tight deadlines
  • Intellectual curiosity and the ability to learn quickly
  • Experience using AP style

Candidate Desired Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated leadership potential
  • Demonstrated storytelling skills
  • Previous experience writing and editing in a corporate or tech environment
  • Ability to take complex information and break into simple, consumable messages
  • M.A. in English, Journalism, Communications, Public Relations or a related field
  • Journalism experience and/or experience as an editor
  • Experience with Google Analytics, Sprinklr, and/or media monitoring software is also a plus
