Position Summary
This is a position of skilled manual labor at the journeyman level in several skilled trades. The employee in this class has general construction and maintenance responsibilities for the entire Burton 4-H facility located on Tybee Island. Duties involve performing work, and at times supervising unskilled, or semi-skilled labors. Employee will work under the supervision of the Center Director.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies
Considerable knowledge of the standard practices, materials, methods and equipment of the various trades needed. Ability to work from drawings, sketches, and oral or written directions. Skill in using tools and material necessitated by the applicable trade; those tools include but are not limited to table saws, circular saws and hand drills, chain saws, riding and walk behind mowers, weed trimmers. Ability to work effectively with other facility employees.
Physical Demands
Work outdoors year round in all weather, will be on feet all day long working with hands. Will carry 30lbs, work on hands and knees, and crawl under buildings, drive large vehicles, handle power tools safely. Can safely climb ladders, and walk 3 miles a day.

Duties/Responsibilities


Duties/Responsibilities
Works as support to Center Director for overall physical plant management of the Burton 4-H Center. This includes maintenance/repair duties such as fixing toilets, sinks, showers, hoses, and sprinklers. Weekly garbage detail and recycling collection and transports to city dump. Simple electric work, trouble-shooting leaking roofs, carpentry repairs to buildings damaged by guest, weather, or time. Also monthly inspection/cleaning and replacing of AC filters, fire extinguishers, air returns vents and exhaust fans. Exterior and interior painting, cleaning and housekeeping in dormitories as necessary. Position will work with Center Director in support of 4-H summer camp program as needed. This position may require "on-call" duties when other staff members are not available. Other duties as needed and assigned.

Landscaping duties like weeding, mowing, mulching. Maintain plantings around property to include cleaning, weeding, planting, and maintaining/installing sprinkler systems as needed.

Works with the Environmental Education Program Coordinator to design and construct teaching spaces, animal cages, and other work as needed to support education programs.

Works with Dining Hall Manager as necessary to assist with grocery deliveries and shelf stocking. This may also include bathroom cleaning, mopping, sweeping and other duties as necessary to support food services.
