Overview

Breast Oncology Biorepository Manager will assist in the management of the DF/HCC Breast Program's translational research hub biorepository in its support of collecting, processing, storing, cataloging, and providing biospecimens for clinical trials, cohort studies, and translational research. Leads the development and maintenance of the wet lab infrastructure, supervises research technicians and clinical research coordinators in accordance with the research experimental policies and procedures for the clinical trials, cohort studies and specific translational research studies. Ultimately responsible for the day-to-day lab operations of the biorepository in that they adhere to safety guidelines and meet the objectives and standard operating procedures of all of the research studies and clinical trials. Act as the lab point of contact for Principal Investigators and their study teams in the planning and execution of biospecimen collection for new study startups and design of transitional studies, particularly as it relates to tissue. Oversees specimen entry into the biorepository, collating and sharing specimens under appropriate IRB approvals, and working directly with the Co-Chairs of the DF/HCC Breast Clinical Data and Biospecimens Users Committee to oversee and manage, review, and execute biospecimen requests.

Responsibilities

  • Manage incoming biospecimen collection for active studies - includes oversight of quality control, proper cataloguing and tracking of samples, day to day communication with study team about collections, and oversight and management of external site biospecimen collections.
  • Manages and directs the processing of biospecimen collectionsfor clinical trials and cohort studies in DF/HCC Breast Program.
  • Maintains quality control of specimen processing including supervision and training of laboratory team
  • Provides essential direction and guidance to Principal Investigators and their clinical research and cohort study teams in the development and execution of the treatment trials and cohort studies as it relates to the processing and management of biospecimens. This includes development of lab manuals for studies, caTissue instances, as well as processing, cataloguing and storage methods and techniques specific to the studies.
  • Manages and mentors lab personnel through trainings on SOPs across the DF/HCC Breast Program clinical trial and cohort study portfolio, while ensuring all personnel are utilizing lab space in accordance with proper safety guidelines.
  • Maintains and develops the lab infrastructure by overseeing equipment maintenance and space allocation.
  • Manages and coordinates ordering for the lab in collaboration with Breast program leadership and grants management.
  • Oversees equipment usage, supply needs and personnel resources to most efficiently accommodate project requests and accurately provide timelines for milestones and completions of projects to requesting researchers.
  • Coordinates in relation to proposals approved by the DF/HCC Breast Users Committee to identify and collate outgoing samples for the purposes of analysis under clinical trial, secondary use studies using trial samples, and studies using cohort studies.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Excellent organization and communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills - ability to effectively interact with all levels of staff and externals contacts.
  • Must be detail oriented and have the ability to follow-through.
  • Ability to effectively manage time and prioritize workload.
  • Must practice discretion and adhere to hospital confidentiality guidelines at all times.
  • Must have strong computer skills including previous experience with Microsoft Office.

MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's Degree required
  • 3 years working in an academic medical or scientific lab research setting or equivalent experience required.
