Director of External Communications

The Opportunity

The Director of External Communications is responsible for promoting and upholding the external reputation of the organization while promoting its strategic vision, key leaders and notable accomplishments to key stakeholders across all media platforms. Reporting to the VP of Corporate Marketing, this individual manages daily PR activities in coordination with internal stakeholders and PR agency contacts to meet program objectives. The Director of External Communications cultivates a strong knowledge of commercial real estate industry, staying abreast of industry trends, regulatory developments and competitor activities in order to keep Berkadia's presence in the media on the leading edge.

Responsibilities

Essential Duties (Primary Responsibilities) include the following.



  • Work with VP of Marketing and Communications to determine strategic vision for external communications
  • Manage communications agency partner relationships
  • Draft strategic communications materials including plans, messaging, press releases, articles, email campaigns, etc.
  • Work with Research and Content teams to determine opportunities for proactive thought leadership in industry publications
  • Act as main media spokesperson/liaison for company
  • Idea generation and proactive pitching to national and trade media
  • Provide strategic oversight and direction for individual teams and groups
  • Guide crisis management efforts as needed
  • Support content needs and strategic direction of Berkadia blog
  • Work with internal groups to set priorities and execute strategic vision
  • Manage awards program
  • Seek proactive thought leadership opportunities, including speaking opportunities, conference keynotes, podcasts, and more.
  • Monitor coverage and measure impact of all external communications efforts
  • Supporting Marketing and Events teams with communications specific needs related to respective projects and engagements
  • Manage Marketing & Communications Assistant
