Adult Education ELL Teacher (Part-time)

Job Description

The Adult Education ELL Teacher teaches English reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills to adult students.

Qualifications:



  • Education: Bachelor's degree in job-related area.
  • Certificates & Licenses: TESOL Certification or a Virginia Department of Education teaching license preferred.
  • Experience: Job-related experience is required; experience teaching English as a second language to adults.


Essential Functions:



  • Adapts classroom work to provide students with instructional materials that address individualized learning plans within established lesson plans.
  • Adapts curriculum for students to learn workplace readiness and computer literacy skills.
  • Administers tests and language assessments to evaluate students' language ability.
  • Assesses student progress towards objectives, expectations, and/or goals to provide feedback to students.
  • Counsels students to improve performance, health status, problem-solving techniques, and a variety of personal issues.
  • Demonstrates methods required to perform classroom and/or subject-specific assignments to provide an effective program that addresses individual student requirements.
  • Instructs bilingual students to improve their success in academics and skills.
  • Models English communication to develop students' ability to communicate effectively in the English language.
  • Participates in a variety of meetings to convey and/or gather information required to perform functions.
  • Prepares a variety of written materials (e.g. grades, attendance, anecdotal records, etc.) to document student progress and meet mandated requirements.
  • Reports incidents (e.g. fights, etc.) to maintain the personal safety of students, provide a positive learning environment, and adhere to the Education Code and school policies.
  • Responds to emergency situations to resolve immediate safety concerns and/or directs appropriate personnel for resolution.
  • Responds to inquiries from a variety of sources (e.g. other teachers, administrators, etc.) to resolve issues, and provide information and/or direction.
  • Performs other related duties, as assigned, to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.


Clearances:



  • Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance.
  • Tuberculosis Skin Test.


Public Health Compliance:



  • Proof of COVID vaccination. Exemptions for religious/medical will be reviewed.
  • Must follow safety and health protocols.
