What does a great Performance Engineer do?

Travelport's performance engineers develop solutions that provide industry-leading travel solutions enabling our customers to search, compare and buy travel. Our search products handle requests at a massive and ever-growing scale. We're looking for engineers who bring fresh ideas from all areas including data construction and consumption, performance optimization and testing, pattern development and machine learning. To work in this demanding area, we need our engineers to be versatile, display leadership qualities and be enthusiastic to take on new problems as the features and technology continue to evolve in the exciting travel industry.

As a performance engineer, you will work on one of the world's most unique and powerful systems processing billions of sub-second transactions per year. We are delivering on a next-generation marketplace that connects buyers and sellers that share our passion for exceptional travel experiences. Are you ready?

Responsibilities include:



  • Build and maintain hardware/software simulators to enable faster evaluation of options and solutions.
  • Build tools to extract metrics from running workloads and perform data analysis to identify areas of improvement.
  • Maintain benchmarks, and study product roadmaps for upcoming impacts while collaborating with other teams to improve the end-to-end flow and results.
  • Analyze system software to identify bottlenecks and improve performance or cost (TCO).
  • Collaborate with an internationally distributed team with members representing Customer Experience, Enterprise Architecture, Software Engineering, Product Owners, Information Security, and outside vendors.
  • Generate and socialize ideas, then take swift action to improve overall system design and performance, and to streamline the delivery of new features.
  • Understand search technologies and their interactions with adjacent systems. Design new features with an emphasis on the long-term performance and scalability of the system database.
  • Establish and enforce best practices and enterprise-level development standards through mentoring, consulting, design sessions, whiteboarding, risk mitigation, appropriate work delegation, and code reviews.
  • Provide technical leadership to agile development teams by providing design guidance, feature decomposition, and assisting in identifying solutions.
  • Optimize algorithms for the air travel pricing and search platform.
  • Deliver high quality code and optimized solutions on time and to specification.
  • Design efficient and iterative test processes to ensure the performance and accuracy of the system and its result set.
  • Support the production system and be available to resolve customer incident escalations in an "always on" global travel industry.


Who we are looking for in this role:



  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience in Mathematics, Data Science, Computer Science, Engineering.
  • 7 years of software development experience, or 5 years with an advanced degree.
  • Experience with software development using C, prolog, assembler or other lower-level programming language.
  • Experience with algorithms, performance analysis, and computer architecture.
  • Experience with performance analysis and debugging - improving performance of single node or multi-node (distributed) systems is preferred.

Salary Target: $110,000.00 - $120,000.00

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty, and training.
