Job Description:

Collaborate on research in the Oden Institute for Computational Engineering and Sciences under the supervision of Dr(s) John-Paul Clarke, Ufuk Topcu and/or Karen Willcox. Will help lead research efforts in a project aiming to establish an algorithmic foundation that will support the development, deployment, and adoption of advanced air mobility systems for autonomous cargo operations at scale. The project is funded by NASA through its University Leadership Initiative. The postdoctoral scholar will collaborate with teams from University of Texas at Austin, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Purdue University and a range of additional partners from academia, industry, and government.

General Notes

The Oden Institute is an organized research unit that fosters interdisciplinary programs in computational sciences and engineering, computational medicine, computational geosciences, mathematical modeling, applied mathematics, data science, software engineering, and computational visualization. PhD must have been received within the past three years. The position is funded for a year with possibility of continuation based upon performance review, progress towards research goals, and continuation of funding. The appointment is initially for one year and renewable up to 3 years.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct research in areas related to the project.
  • Supervise graduate and undergraduate research assistants.
  • Participate in technical conferences,
  • Support project reporting.
  • Support the organization of workshops.
Required Qualifications
  • Ph.D. degree received within past 3 yearsin any field of engineering or computer science as long as their expertise can be related to the overall goals of the project.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and management skills.
  • While the priority is on the novelty of the candidate's past work and potential for professional growth, the following topics are of particular interest: controls, formal methods, optimization, machine learning, engineering risk analysis, and system safety.
  • Ability to work as part of an interdisciplinary research team.
  • Solid publication record.

Salary Range

$60,000+ depending on qualifications

Working Conditions
  • Regular office environment.

  • Travel as required to project meetings or conferences.

Retirement Plan Eligibility:

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
