Overview

The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG), a membership organization dedicated to improving the lives of all people seeking obstetric and gynecologic care, their families, and communities through supporting our members, is currently seeking a Director of Quality and Safety Initiatives.

The Director, Quality and Safety Initiatives (QSI) will direct and implement multiple programs and activities within the Quality and Safety Initiatives department. This role will direct the full-range of services and programming related to patient safety and quality initiatives in obstetrical and gynecologic care while serving as the first-line staff to respond to emerging clinical quality and safety topics. This is a unique opportunity to build out a robust national quality and safety program, directly impacting those seeking and providing care.

Responsibilities

    Serve as the primary point of contact and oversee QSI staff, activities, volunteers, and budget.
  • Oversee convenings of subject matter experts and members, as well as other educational, research, and program activities.
  • Develop and maintain collaborative relationships and communication with internal and external partners including: ACOG members, District and Section leadership, and staff; government agencies; and other relevant organizations, medical and non-medical, related to quality and safe provision of patient care.
  • Seek to integrate and center concepts of equity into all aspects of the QSI work and programming.
  • Respond to inquiries from Fellows, staff, external partners, and others regarding quality and safety topics.
  • Create and provide presentations and reports to internal and external audiences.
  • Direct and supervise all aspects of the Voluntary Review of Quality of Care and Indigenous Health Programs, including financial, administrative, and volunteer and personnel management.
  • Define QSI program scope and objectives and design implementation plan, involving all relevant stakeholders and ensuring technical feasibility.
  • Provide ongoing assessment of all programming, driving program activities to defined milestones and deliverables.
  • Build, manage and continuously improve upon program workflows and systems; adapt program activities in response to emerging opportunities and needs.
  • Build and maintain effective communication with leaders and subject matter experts in a variety of educational, functional, and technological areas related to quality and safety.
  • Collaborate effectively across the organization and with external partners to promote program work, identify points of integration, and enhance program visibility and reach.
  • Supervise and manage assigned staff. Provide guidance, mentoring, and leadership. Create an inclusive environment, hold employees accountable, ensure completion of assigned tasks, resolve conflicts, conduct annual performance evaluations, and provide professional development opportunities.
  • Negotiate and monitor contracts, grants, and other agreements; ensure compliance with ACOG policies and other requirements; design and facilitate evaluation and reporting activities.
  • Seek input from and routinely brief leadership on program activities and progress toward deliverables.
  • Create work plans, timelines, and content for funding proposals, including program design and implementation strategy. Collaborate with leadership and Development staff to prioritize program activities and funding requests.
  • Lead collaboration with Communications and Marketing staff to effectively disseminate program materials to members, partners, and other stakeholders.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in a health-related field required, Master's Degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of related experience required, including 5 or more years of progressively responsible program management experience in patient safety and quality improvement or related programming.
  • Minimum of three to five years of supervisory experience.
  • Broad understanding of clinical quality and safety in obstetrical and gynecologic care, including strategies to address health inequities resulting in outcome disparities, data-driven quality improvement, and patient safety programming strategies for inpatient and outpatient settings of care.
  • Experience in medical education or regional/national quality and safety work preferred.
  • Ability to represent organizational priorities and standards to external entities and serve as a liaison on working groups and committees establishing clinical quality standards related to obstetrical and gynecologic care.
  • Have a high sense of urgency and the ability to pivot as priorities are redirected.
  • Demonstrated skill in designing, implementing, and evaluating clinical care, medical and public health educational and training activities, materials, and events.
  • Experiencing planning and leading working groups and other high functioning teams towards planned objectives.
  • Strong writing and communication skills; demonstrated public speaking skills and ability to communicate with diverse audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop educational content for a variety of audiences and distribution channels.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment, prioritize and implement multiple projects and responsibilities, and collaborate effectively with internal and external partners.
  • Ability to travel, often overnight and for several days.
