Currently announcing a vacancy for an Associate Director of Government Relations - External Partnership Coordinator.


Job Summary

Individual holding this position reports directly to the Director of Government Relations, Office of Policy and Politics. The purpose of this position is to develop, plan and implement activities that cultivate and maintain relationships with external organizations that NJEA has a shared interest, organizational partner and or financial support. This includes, but not limited to advocacy organizations, non-profits, and corporate entities.


Essential Functions

  1. Maintain relationships with organizations that NJEA provides support, including evaluating
    financial requests, tracking status updates on supported projects, and making
    recommendations for future support.
  2. Identify, cultivate and maintain relationships on NJEA's behalf with organizations and
    entities where the potential for partnerships exists or the parties have shared interests/issues.
  3. Represent NJEA at external organizations meetings. This could a formal appointment as
    NJEA's liaison or where the Association's presence and partnership furthers the interests of
    NJEA members.
  4. Collect and maintain data, policies, and position statement of partner organizations.
  5. Design, arrange and conduct informational presentations.
  6. Conduct special projects from time to time as directed by the needs of the organization.
  7. May be trained and called upon to analyze legislation and regulations pertaining to education,
    public employment, and other matters of concern to NJEA.
  8. May be trained and called upon to present NJEA positions at meetings of NJ Assembly and
    Senate committees, US Congress, and NJ State Board of Education.
  9. May be called upon to register as a legislative agent for NJEA and file required quarterly
    reports with the NJ Election Law Enforcement Commission.
  10. Serve as a staff contact to NJEA member committee(s), as assigned.
  11. Perform other duties as may be assigned by the Executive Director or the director of
    Government Relations - Office of Policy and Politics.


Qualifications, Training and Experience

  • A bachelor's degree is preferred.
  • Possess a high degree of intelligence and imagination, and excellent written and verbal
    communications skills, with the ability to transfer complex ideas into simple, direct language
    and give close attention to detail, form, and substance. Ability to confidently represent NJEA
    in meetings and conferences.
  • General knowledge and familiarity with the organization and operation of public schools as
    well as with the habits, attitudes, and personalities of public school employees and the ability
    to apply those to prioritizing partnerships and funding recommendations
  • Experience working with or for non-profit, advocacy or corporations, New Jersey experience
    preferred.
  • General knowledge and familiarity with New Jersey political networks to provide context to
    the work.
  • Proficient with the operations of office computers, including proficiency in Microsoft
    Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Word or equivalent, Teams, Sharepoint, Zoom or equivalent.
  • Possess strong research skills and ability to provide concise reports on important information.
  • Experience in creating and maintaining data bases including NGP VAN and Sharepoint.
  • Self-motivated in creating work plans and implementation of work, careful attention to
    schedules and calendars.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with others with a strong commitment to teamwork within the
    staff of the division and NJEA.
  • Must be able to work long hours, including some weekends and evenings, drive to locations
    across New Jersey, and occasionally out of state if needed
