Postdoctoral Associates - Martin Lab

Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI)
United States, California, Berkeley
Dec 11, 2023
Primary Work Address: 2033 Valley Life Sciences Building, Berkeley, CA, 94720-3140 Current HHMI Employees, click here to apply via your Workday account.

We are currently looking for two enthusiastic, self-motivated Postdoctoral Associates to work in the laboratory of Dr. Andy Martin at the University of California, Berkeley. The Martin lab's research focuses on the 26S proteasome and related protein translocases of the AAA+ ATPase family. In addition to processing misfolded, damaged, and incompletely translated proteins, the proteasome selectively degrades a large variety of regularly proteins that are involved in cell-cycle control, cell differentiation, signal transduction, transcription, and other vital processes, making it an essential mediator of post-translational control. More information can be found on the lab's website:

The Postdoctoral Associates will address exciting questions about the mechanisms of protein quality control, ATP-dependent protein unfolding and degradation, the ubiquitin-proteasome system, and ATPase motor function, and characterize the proteasome-degraded proteome. This is an excellent opportunity for candidates who have demonstrated the ability to work independently and have a track record of publications in peer-reviewed journals.

What we provide:
  • Opportunity to work in a small, diverse, and encouraging research environment.

  • Opportunities to go to domestic and international conferences in addition to departmental and HHMI retreats to present scientific findings. In the past year, our trainees have presented at Keystone (Vancouver, Canada), EMBO (Cavtat, Croatia), and Cold Spring Harbor (New York).

  • Opportunities to attend workshops for specialized training, such as instrumentation and data analysis.

  • Opportunity to mentor undergraduate researchers and build the next generation of scientists. Our lab is dedicated to teaching undergraduates through independent research projects.

  • Live in the beautiful San Francisco Bay area, with easy access to both city life and nature. Driving distance to many great National Parks and Lake Tahoe.
