    • Pay starting at $27.6277/hr.

    City of Sterling Heights full time employees and their dependents who are enrolled on the City's health coverage have access to a health and wellness center staffed with a physician and nurse.

    Position Summary

    Under the supervision of the City Assessor, the Appraiser I is responsible for the appraisal of residential property and day-to-day assignments are carried out under the direction of an Appraiser II or III. The Appraiser I plays a key role in valuation of residential properties situated in the City through completion of the property appraisal process. Due to the regulatory nature and volume of residential assessments conducted, an Appraiser I's work product must be completed in a timely, accurate and compliant manner. The Appraiser I has daily contact with property owners, so a customer service orientation and skill set is essential to job success.

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Bachelor's Degree; preferably in Public or Business Administration or related field.
    • Must obtain the Michigan Certified Assessing Technician ("MCAT") from the State Tax Commission within six (6) months from date of hire.
    • Must obtain the Michigan Certified Assessing Officer ("MCAO") from the State Tax Commission within one (1) year from date of hire.
    • One year professional experience working in an assessing office performing assessing duties is highly preferred.
    • Must have knowledge of principles and practices in statistical methods and mathematics and ability to research and apply laws, regulations, and ordinances affecting appraisal processes.
    • Must have experience and competency in working with software systems and workplace applications, including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe Acrobat.
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills, customer service skills, and organizational skills.
