Old Republic Surety Company (ORSC) is currently seeking a Regional Vice President Commercial Suretyto join itsField Leadership Team in the West Region, which consists of the following states: WA, OR, CA, NV, AZ, UT, NM, ID, MT, AK, HI .This position could be based out of any metropolitan city within the West Region, with preference given to Los Angeles (Chino), CA, Portland, OR or Phoenix, AZ.Under the guidance of the Vice President - Commercial Surety, this position oversees the management of assigned branch offices and provides management and development to branch personnel. This position also recommends authority levels and coordinates and approves underwriting submissions for branch offices within the assigned territory.Must have Surety Underwriting and Surety Marketing experience.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Supervise direct reports, make recommendations for performance management and disciplinary action. Train subordinates to achieve goals. In addition, contribute to the new employee selection process.
  • Oversee the management of assigned branch offices. Provide management and development to branch personnel. Assists in the development of training programs for field personnel.
  • Promote Old Republic Surety Company's contract surety underwriting standards and insure compliance with those standards. Assist Home Office in evaluation of underwriting guidelines.
  • Recommend authority levels and conditions for Bond Managers and Underwriters within the assigned region to Home Office for approval.
  • Coordinate and approve, within authority limits, all underwriting submissions within the assigned region. Serve as the first line of contact for "over authority" submissions and assist Bond Managers and Underwriters in preparing submissions for Home Office review and approval.
  • Evaluate annual business plans of assigned branch offices. Prepare annual business plans and budgets within the assigned region. Provide strategic direction in executing business plans. Monitor and measure execution of operational plan against Company objectives.
  • Execute expense management plans, along with Bond Managers, to meet budget to contribute to overall profitability.
  • Participate in sales and underwriting activities as they relate to agency management and business development. Develop agency plant and key broker relationships.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
This position requires a Bachelor's Degree in a related field, or equivalent, and a minimum of eight years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Working as a Regional Vice President requires one to work independently and effectively within a fast-paced environment. Proficiency with Microsoft (MS) Windows and Office products is necessary.Other skills necessary include excellent oral and written communication skills, strong organizational and accurate proofreading skills, the ability to maintain accurate records, the ability to exercise discretion with confidential information, strong attention to detail, and the ability to use a variety of office equipment.
This position requires frequent travel by use of motor vehicle, public transportation, and/or
airplane. This position also requires one to continuously have a valid driver's license and a motor vehicle operator's record that is considered satisfactory as defined by company and/or corporate procedures.
PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS:
This position requires one to sit for extended periods of time and stand and/or walk occasionally. The position requires one to occasionally push, pull, carry, and/or lift up to 10 pounds. No personal protective equipment is required. Ergonomic equipment is available to employees.
