Based in Chevy Chase, Maryland, our award-winning Tangled Bank Studios, BioInteractive program, and key journalism partnerships promote greater understanding of the living world and our role in sustaining it

Summary:

As part of HHMI's BioInteractive program, you will collaborate with a versatile team of educators, scientists, and media developers to advance life science education for millions of students by providing educators with a broad range of classroom resources, professional development opportunities, and community.

The Multimedia Developer will develop content for HHMI BioInteractive. They will focus on developing resource playlists, courses, and handling the editorial process for the Assessment Builder website. The person in this role will use adult learning theory, pedagogical practices, and technological expertise to create engaging online learning. They will create HHMI BioInteractive online courses for educators, modules for students, coherent playlists of BioInteractive resources, and manage a large database of assessment items for introductory biology.

This role will report in person to our headquarters in Chevy Chase, MD several days each week.

What you'll do:

  • Collaborate with team members to design, develop, and curate HHMI BioInteractive online learning resources for high school and college-level introductory biology courses and instructors using our Canvas Learning Management System.

  • Develop engaging and effective synchronous and asynchronous learning experiences for educators and students by combining existing BioInteractive content with new materials as needed.

  • Make recommendations on learning designs and approaches to ensure that content focuses on learning objectives and includes aligned activities and assessments.

  • Give feedback on the work of other content developers, contractors, and item writers to build capacity and expertise in assessment and lesson design across the BioInteractive community.

  • Proactively communicate project progress and craft high-quality work that meets timeframes.

  • Participate in HHMI BioInteractive staff meetings and content meetings.

  • Chip in as part of a team with multiple overlapping roles.

What you bring:

  • Graduate degree in life science and/or science education

  • Ten+ years of experience instructing biology at the high school and/or college level.

  • Training in instructional design and course development.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with a wide range of people, including educators, scientists, writers, graphic artists, and web developers.

  • Demonstrated ability to work with life science subject matter experts to determine learning requirements, balance science practices to content ratio, and deliver high-quality work.

  • Ability and willingness to travel to events around the country to learn about and promote inclusive and equitable teaching practices.

  • Experience with 508 compliance and development of responsive products for use on mobile devices preferred.

Physical Requirements:

Remaining in a normal seated or standing position for extended periods of time; reaching and grasping by extending hand(s) or arm(s); dexterity to manipulate objects with fingers, for example using a keyboard; communication skills using the spoken word; ability to see and hear within normal parameters; ability to move about workspace. The position requires mobility, including the ability to move materials weighing up to several pounds (such as a laptop computer or tablet).

Compensation Range

$100,885.60 (minimum) - $126,107.00 (midpoint) - $163,939.10 (maximum)

Pay Type:

Annual

HHMI's salary structure is developed based on relevant job market data. HHMI considers a candidate's education, previous experiences, knowledge, skills and abilities, as well as internal equity when making job offers. Typically, a new hire for this position in this location is compensated between the minimum and the midpoint of the salary range.
