Director of Rugby/Head Women's Rugby Coach

The Director of Rugby/Head Women's Rugby Coachwill oversee the day-to-day operations, recruitment, coaching and oversight of the women's varsity rugby team as well as lead the efforts for recruiting of the men's club rugby program. Organization and management of two programs with supervision of coaching, recruiting, retention, and budget preparation.

The selected candidate will be expected to help get both a women's varsity and men's club team fielded. The position will receive support from a part-time head coach for men's rugby as well as assistant coaches for both
programs. Both teams are expected to carry 24+ student-athletes with yearly recruiting goals of 6-8 new students every fall.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop a training and competitive schedule which maximizes athlete development and performance as well as academic success
  • Manage practice and contests, ensuring appropriate behavior of student-athletes and coaches are monitored and enforced
  • Demonstrate "master teaching" competencies with regard to: (a) sport skill instruction, (b) motivation, and (c) coaching skills during competitive events
  • Train, supervise, and evaluate head and assistant coaches to support all program objectives
  • Cultivate fan and community support to encourage interest and attendance at events
  • Manage budget and remain within budget guidelines
  • Develop fundraising leads to support program initiatives
  • Organize and maintain accurate inventory of equipment and uniforms
  • Recruit qualified student-athletes with a commitment to academic success while meeting established roster goals
  • Oversee and coordinate with appropriate staff academic progress of student athletes
  • Create long-term player development plans; technical, tactical and physical development of individual players over time
  • Promote all aspects of the program, the athletics department, and Alfred University through marketing, advancement and public relations activities
  • Serve as an example of competitive but sportsmanlike conduct
  • Work with the athletic trainer to assure that athletic injuries are handled appropriately and in a timely fashion
  • Report and address student concerns in a timely fashion through one-on-one interaction and referrals as necessary

Requirements:

  • Formal Education: Bachelor's required, Master's degree preferred.
  • Experience: Experience in recruitment, organization and coaching of rugby. Organizing and motivating players and assistant coaches to create programs that recruit and retain student-athletes, allow for personal growth and compete amongst our peers.
  • Additional Knowledge/Skills: Knowledge of youth programs in the Northeast, any previous recruiting experience andprevious playing experience would be considered strengths.
