Summary Operates complex component saws to cut planks, timbers, or boards according to work orders by performing the following duties. Provides training and work direction to other Saw Operators. Qualifications To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Education and/or Experience High school diploma or general education degree (GED), plus 1-year prior experience and/or training in related construction or lumber industries; or equivalent combination of education and experience. 6 months prior experience working on machines and good mechanical aptitude is required. Must have attention to quality, quantity and safety. Language Skills Ability to read a limited number of two- and three-syllable words and to recognize similarities and differences between words and between series of numbers. Ability to print and speak simple sentences. Mathematical Skills Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Reasoning Ability Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one- or two-step instructions. Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables. Other Skills and Abilities Must be able to identify species, size, and grade of lumber. Physical Demands The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
