Overview Role Summary The VP, Senior Medical Director of Atrium Health Navicent Medical Group (AHNMG) is a member of the medical group leadership team responsible for the quality, access, patient and provider teammate experience, fiscal performance, and implementation of growth strategies. This individual will provide leadership to achieve the strategic objectives of the AHNMG in alignment with the overall strategy and mission of Atrium Health Navicent, and the broader Advocate Health System. The medical group consists of 225+ physicians and advanced practice providers, representing 36 and growing specialties, and practicing in 40+ locations. This position works within a complex organizational structure and will require the skills and behaviors of strategic thinking, goal setting, performance monitoring and goal attainment, complex problem solving, coaching, multi-modal communication, relationship and network building, and engagement/alignment with organizational strategy and tactics. The VP, Senior Medical Director, will play a key and critical role in the ongoing growth and development of AHNMG. She/He/They will have oversite of the medical education department division chairs (family medicine, pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, and surgery), as well as the clinical practice leader for hospital medicine. The VP, Senior Medical Director, will have an opportunity to practice clinically. Primary Responsibilities
- Works collaboratively with other leaders to develop and implement multi-disciplinary and integrated clinical care programs, meeting the patients' and community's needs. Ensures that innovative and emerging trends are operationalized, as appropriate. Ensures an accessible delivery model. Represents Atrium Health Navicent to the community, as appropriate.
- Leads the charge in further evolution in the medical group governance structure while building the culture of engagement within the medical group. Enhances communication between practicing, frontline physicians, and administration.
- Develops the vision for why providers want to be a part of our medical group. Support Physician and APP recruitment by actively engaging in development of position descriptions, candidate sourcing, and virtual and in-person interviews.
- Leads planning (prioritization of programs, new market entrance considerations, clinical strategies, etc.) and implementation of new provider growth strategies. Ensures new and evolving clinical programs and providers attain visit volumes, provider productivity assumptions, and other business development and performance goals. Guides ambulatory practice space planning for the medical group practices and clinics by offering input for clinical operations requirements.
- Elevates the focus on quality and safety performance; develops and maintains standards of patient care, teaching, and research; and leads performance improvement initiatives. Ensures that evidence-based medical practice is exercised to ensure high quality, efficient care across the continuum of services; ensures that clinical measures are monitored and responded to for the advancement of excellence; assists in maintaining survey readiness and DNV accreditation where applicable; and monitors physician and APPP performance in these measures.
- Oversees clinical issues pertaining to resource utilization, utilization review, quality improvement, risk management, clinical equipment issues and other issues, as appropriate. Maintains expenditures within budget. Oversees capital investment decisions for defined areas.
- Maintains an appropriate level of physicians and APPs that represent a spectrum of highly qualified providers offering comprehensive experience for patients, residents, and medical students. Recommends, in collaboration with other leaders, the appointment, reappointment or termination of physicians and/or APPs.
- Supports, promotes, evaluates performance, and encourages development of desired and/or needed skills for providers within their roles. Identifies and develops future physician and APP leaders, collaborating with them to develop communication skills and an understanding of the system. Provides recognition of physicians and APPs who go "above and beyond" to support excellence.
- Responsible for identifying and resolving all issues related to behavior and conduct amongst Atrium Health Navicent Medical Group providers.
- Collaborates with the Designated Institution Official in the Division of Medical Education to support the development and implementation of effective and innovative educational programs for practicing physicians, faculty, residents, and students.
- Provides guidance on the changing medical landscape, continuum of care, and future opportunities.
Allocation of Time
- Administrative with up to 20% of time dedicated to clinical practice.
Matrixed Reporting Relationship
- Direct to Atrium Health Navicent Chief Clinical Officer
- Works in a triad partnership with the VP, Medical Group Operations and VP, Medical Group Growth and Integration
- Works in close partnership with the VP, Designated Institutional Officer, and VP, Central Georgia Health Network, to ensure academic, clinical, and value-based quality initiative alignment and integration across the Advocate Health enterprise.
Qualifications
- M.D. degree by graduating from an allopathic medical school accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) or received a D.O. degree and graduated from an American Osteopathic Association accredited osteopathic school required.
- Board Certification by the American Board of Primary Care or Medical Specialty
- Minimum of 10 years post- training clinical experience.
- Leadership experience in medical group or service line.
- Demonstrate ability to build clinical programs.
- Demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Academic qualifications supportive of Assistant Professor track, desirable.
